“Nice rooms, but...”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

The Grande Vista is a newer hotel, and the rooms show it as they are quite clean, and the top floor deck does have a great view. However, clean rooms are just part of the hotel experience. The 4th floor breakfast staff were OK, but the service on the evening shift was terrible. We had internet the first day, but it was non existent the following two days, and the staff were resigned to the fact that it was just a fault with their provider (Globe). Of course, Globe internet service wasn't down for the entire city for two days, it is simply a problem with this hotels connection, and endlessly being told "maybe later" wasn't an adequate answer. This combined with a very weak shower pressure, and having to ask for towels after our rooms were cleaned, earns this hotel a below average rating. We stayed January 8-10th 2014.

Very good customer service. They had interns at that time of our stay (12/7-12/10/13) but they work like professionals. The staffs are very respectful and attended to our needs quickly. Cant think of any negative to complain. Me and my family of 6 had a good experience in this hotel and will definitely come back and recommend to out balikbayan friends.

I'm not sure what some of the complaints here are about. I'm a stickler for quality service and this hotel does a very good job.

The good:
1. Free airport pickup AND drop-off with no waiting
2. Fast check-in process
3. Nice top floor deck with a beautiful daytime view
4. Free breakfast that's well above average for a hotel in this price point (they have American and Filipino style breakfasts, and the portions are good size)
5. Decent pool, and the staff doesn't hassle you if you want to swim after 10pm
6. Despite having issues the first half hour, wifi was very fast throughout the rest of my stay. I made several Skype calls including a radio interview with no issue.
7. There is no lift, but if you're carrying so much as a duffel bag up and down the stairs, the staff will intercept you and carry the bag for you. Every time I passed a staff member in the hall, they said hello.
8. Location is within reasonable walking distance to Rizal Ave restaurants and shops (make sure to try KaLui) and the sea walk.

The bad:
1. I was in two rooms and the soap scum in both faucets is kinda bad. Overall, the rooms are clean
2. The pillows and sheets smell nice but they're a bit stiff. Towels are stiff, too.
3. The convenience store connected to the hotel sold me a phone load card that expired and I lost my money. I don't think it's run by the hotel; just go across the street to the gas station for snacks/drinks/phone cards.

We decided to stay there b/c of the location - the hotel is away from Rizal – the nosiest street in PPS. Room was big but the beds were covered with plastic (stitched with scotch) which made is a bit disgusting to sleep on them. A/C was noisy and it was leaking which was a dangerous considering that there was an outlet underneath the A/C. The hotel is not using A/C in the hall areas and it is very hot in the building. There is no lift in the building which is a huge disadvantage if you have heavy bags. They have a restaurant on the top floor with no selection of food or drinks. You can skip their breakfast (not good at all). Hotel decor looks nice of the pictures but in reality it is rather tacky.

It's an economy hotel as rated by the Dept of Tourism but the staff is equivalent to a 5-star hotel!!! Very accommodating, approachable, kind and proactive! The hotel itself has very good amenities with reasonable price, clean rooms, and a convenient store having reasonable prices of its goods! A must stay hotel when vacationing in Palawan!

Looks like a 5 star hotel, and the staff service is really great (bookings, information, advices, ...)

More expensive than many hotel, but really affordable (around 1800 PHP / night + 10% tax).
And there is a pool, very small but at least one :-), and on the roof and you can see the view around, this is great !

Breakfast is really poor ! only 3 or 4 choices, and not so great...
The hotel not in 'down town = Rizal Avenue' but you can walk 5-10 minutes to reach it, or 2 minutes by tricycle (20PHP for 2).

The hotel is located on a busy Malvar street of Puerto Princesa and is believed to be at the center of the city's buzzling activities. When we first walked in, we were awed by the intricacies of native ornamentation. The basic amenities of a standard hotel are available here at a very competitive price...flat screen (21-inch), a ref, and an excellent A/C. A couple of times my wife had to turn it off coz she couldn't bear the cold. Rooms are always clean as they change towels & replace toiletries everyday despite having no door sign that says "PLS. MAKE UP ROOM". A few problems, though. The bathroom door lock in our room was broken, the tissue holder was broken, the shower head had very weak water flow, the shower curtain was narrow so that water splattered to the toilet area damping the whole floor.
The hotel has no elevators so you need to take the stairs to your room and to the 4th floor for breakfast. But It was not so much of a painstaking effort taking the stairs to the top floor as the steps are pretty low. Breakfast is no buffet. Choices limited only to rice or bread with egg & a choice of tapa, hotdog, tocino, smoked fish, ham plus juice or a 3in1 coffee. Best part is there's a stairway to a viewing deck. You get a 360-degree view of the city and adjoining islands surrounded by water.
There's also Wifi access on every floor but signal strength was weak at times.
As to the staff, they're friendly and polite; they always greet you even in the hallways. And the doorman readily assists in getting you tricycles.
The Hotel also offers free airport transfers. Overall, we give it a two thumbs up.
