“Very Pleased with Our Stay”
Reviewed January 21, 2014

We stayed for 4 nights and 5 days in January 2014. Takes about an hour to get on the island with the hotel boat service. Check process was very quick and we were promptly shown to our room. We upgraded our room to the executive and it was well worth it. The room was huge with two large beds, a separate living room with TV and DVD player. We had a huge private balcony overlooking the beach. The washroom was large with separate tub and shower. Room had plenty of cabinet space for clothes for 3. Pool area is very nice with a unique design to the pool. They have a small boat that takes you to a platform for snorkelling every 30 minutes. The snorkelling was very good, corral right off the island provided for plenty of things to see. They were very family accommodating with the snorkelling and provided plenty of in water guides to show you around. The guides were very friendly and helpful, our son Ralph had a blast with Manny! Breakfast buffet was pretty decent. The regular food menu was pretty limited, they could use some more selection given this is the only place to eat on the island. Dinner buffet seemed to be hit and miss, some days it was really good and some days it was just OK. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and wouldn't hesitate to come back.

The location of this hotel is spectacular but the hotel was really disappointing and an absolute rip off for the price. The hotel was run-down, the room was yellowed after years of not having been painted. The doors were flaking and falling apart. The view from the room was beautiful but everything else was old and grimy. The restaurant was a total rip-off, expensive prices and low quality food. The "New Years Eve Gala" was an over-priced sham. Double the price of other evening buffet which was not good at all. On our last night, after four days there my husband and I ordered a roast chicken and both of us were sick for a week after. We been on the Island for 4 days so it must have been something we ate there. The lap pool was lovely and relaxing, when the staff were not shouting at each other across the spa. I visited the spa for a massage and was very disappointed with the level of the spa, run-down and massage not up to standard. This place is nice, but the quality of accommodation and food does not match up to the price and the expectations of a resort and spa. You can certainly find somewhere in the Palawan which is of a much higher standard and which is much more reasonably priced than this place.

We stayed for a week at Dos Palmas from the 27th of December to the 2nd of January... loved every moment of it. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to help us. The rooms were lovely - spacious, comfortable and with a gorgeous view of the sea. The only down side was the 2 hour daily power cut... it wasn't much of a bother once we knew about it, however, it would help if the staff had informed us about it on arrival. The food was good. The buko shake (young coconut flesh with crushed ice) is a must try... had tons of it while there. The snorkeling site was beautiful and early in the morning you could see right down to the bottom of the sea. Lovely.
We learned how to scuba dive while there and I must say the diving instructors were patient and very experienced and friendly. The spa experience was fantastic... we tried pretty much one a day for 6 days and loved every treatment. My favourite was the cucumber and aloe body wrap treatment. After all morning in the sea and sun, we were sun burned and baked. That treatment really rejuvenates the skin!

The resort also arranges for a daily picnic trip to one of the neighbouring islands - a 10 minute boat ride away from the resort. It's free, just like the snorkeling and the kayaking. The island is beautiful; just make sure you carry your own water/food since it has no amenities. You stay there for about an hour or two and then are ferried back to the island. Beware jelly fish.

We tried going on the underground river tour, however, the tour got cancelled 3 days in a row due to rough seas. oh well, maybe next time. Definitely worth a second visit.

I absolutely loved this resort and am already planning to go back and will be staying even longer (so I can take up some more island hopping tours, some attractions and the scuba diving courses!).

The rooms are clean and very well presented and our rooms opened right up onto the beach. It really was picture perfect.

Everything is pretty much included.

We went kayaking which was really fun and saw a lot of starfish (there are always kayaks available and there are no time limits on how long you use them for).

Went snorkelling out at the closer snorkelling site (missed out on the island hopping tour due to my poor time keeping skills but surely that would have been pretty great) and saw so much coral and different fish types and other sea animals as well as a plane wreck too! Had so much fun!

The food was amazing, we did an A la carte lunch and ordered quite a few different dishes and everyone loved their food. We did a dinner buffet and all the foods on offer were fantastic as well as at breakfast time. Their cocktails were great as well and the ambience of the restaurant / bar area and the pool at night time was perfect.

They put on a show of traditional dances and tinikling (dancing with the bamboo - it had everyone laughing and enjoying the night) and also a great fire dancing show!

The weather was perfect thankfully (except for a 20 minute late afternoon rain that usually happens in many tropical places). There were buckets of free umbrellas though for everyone to use (as well as free bikes to explore the island with at your will).

It's more worth being an overnighter guest - there were some people there just for the day but not everything is included when you are just a daytripper, whereas everything is included if you stay overnight and why not pay a little more to enjoy dinner there and the accommodation? It was certainly worth it.

Will be going back again to take up the PADI scuba diving courses!

I had everything for my trip at Palawan organised through Eia at www.itourpalawan.com / www.facebook.com/itour.palawan
We were given great rates and a perfect itinerary that was timed perfectly.
She is a local in Palawan and very experienced in booking tours with and without accommodation and understands how long each of the sights take and how long it takes to travel on the island.
Don't risk doing it yourself as you could end up rushing or missing transport or a whole sight seeing tour altogether if you don't plan the itinerary correctly.
If you want to visit Palawan and make the most out of it then use Eia at iTour!

Room Tip: Choose the A or X rooms as they open right up onto the beach - doesn't matter if you want upstai...

We were a bit hesitant to take this tour but it turned out to be quite worth the long journey from the main island/Puerto Princesa (PP). We stayed for one night and we were able to do a lot of relaxation: spa, dining, canoeing and walking along the beach. The only part the Mrs did not like was the 2-hour drive from PP to get to the pier for the boat that took us to the island resort. The accommodations were good, but the cottages on the water were closed as they were rebuilding or reconstructing them.

We booked this resort in Palawan, hoping for beautiful scenery with white beaches and islands. We got only a bit of that. Coron and el Nido would be better destinations for scenery. The beach here was not white, nore was the swimming great due to weeds. This resort however is a perfect relaxation spot, with beautiful pools, spa, on its own island, where you just forget about the rest of the world!

The good:
- beautiful pool and relaxing areas by the beach
- great staff, very helpful and well trained
- food and drinks are, to Filipino standards, really good
- all rooms are on the beach or at least with sea view
- rooms are very big, with Ac and hot water
- the spa is fantastic and the prices are not overrated
- pool, kicker, darts, ping pong, kayak... Plenty of entertainment options on the island

The bad:
- the resort feels a bit dated in general and lacks some of the local charm
- the restaurant and bar are could use more native elements, more charm
- the evening buffet could offer more fresh fish and grilled meat, especially when resort is full. You have the option to order a la carte for lunch and dinner too however.
- rooms could be cozier with more native elements, hammock outside...
- there is a lack of lounge chairs by the pool, just get 10 more. When we were there the resort was full and people had to wonder around for a place to sit
- the houses on the water would make for great rooms, they are just vacated now and don't seem to have any purpose. They told us they were renovating them.
- underground river tour is possible but will take a full day and with lots of car and boat time

I had misgivings booking in this hotel, but i was proven wrong. It is still one of the best places to visit in palawan. The rooms may need some updating but quite comfortable. Water pressure was good with good hot water each time. Scheduled brownouts twice a day is not a problem since you are out most of the time anyway. The staff was incredibly attentive and polite. They are extra milers and would do everything to please. The activities in the resort will keep you occupied for two days stay. Food was mediocre and pricey and should be improved. It was a pleasant, wonderful well spent weekend at this resort. I don't mind going back sometime in the future.

Room Tip: Get the A and B rooms, closer to the pool, resturants, active centers. The B room with veranda has v...
