“Amazing place!”
Reviewed December 23, 2012

After spending 5 days and 5 nights at Dos Palmas, it was far from easy to leave the place. The resort (and especially the staff) made a great impression on both me and the company I travelled with.

The resort is really nice, beutiful rooms with great facilities. Private diving center with fundives as well as different courses at good prices. Snorkelling the close by reef kayaking the mangrove, and visiting a close by island was allmincluded in the price for the stay.

The only thing that did not really live up to the rest of the resort was the food. It takes some time to get your food, the menue is way to limited for a resort of this standard and the food was not very well seasoned. By saying this, it is definitely not bad by any means, but hiring another chef would definitely help solving this problem. I also understand that the location of the resort limits the possibilities of getting ingredients for the food, but adding some dishes using the same ingredients would probably help alot (as well as opting for more BBQ. I also want to underline that the buffé was awesome! The sallad, the tuna and the soup was among the best food I've had in the Philippines. Putting these dishes on the regular menu would definitely give it a big boost!

The grounds are exceptionally well kept, with tons of different colourful flowers and trees. The pool area is great, the beach is great for walking, relaxing and taking in the views. The wildlife is amazing, I had the good luck of getting to know Piqoy, the semi-wild parrot that has taken a liking to Dos Palmas, who also was up for posing on some photos before taking of into the djungle. We also spotted dolphins, lion fish and a number of other creatures while snorkelling.

The staff are incredible, always smiling and happy to see you. And not in a fake way, but genuinly nice! The service offered at Dos Palmas is indeed its number one pull factor (which is saying a lot, considering its location and facilities).

I just got back home, and I already miss the place. I would recommend anyone on going there, if you are willing to pay the price. It may seem a little steep, but I must say it really is very cheap considering what you get for your peso! Great value!

Room Tip: Ask for a beach front villa not too far from the pool, as they offer better views. Especially if you...

My wife and I were at the resort Dec 2012, for a 2-night vacation. It was a wonderful place. The staff were very courteous, from the time we were pick-up from their office in Puerto Princessa to the wharf then to the island and throught out our stay. The welcome orientation was very informative. It was their low season, there were about half a dozen other parties on the island. So we had pretty much the whole island to ourselves. The cabanas/cabins on stilts were under renovations and were not availble. We stayed in the one of their rooms on the main island as were all the other guests. All meals were served in the Dinning Cabana, behind the front desk. There's a designer swimming pool (2 levels) and a hot tub (not hot water). All rooms were well situated, with a view of the ocean. There were also 3 cabanas for just sitting around, away from the sun the just enjoy the ocean view and sunset. The room we were in and I suspect is the same as the others were well designed , but lack maintainance. Evidence of items were falling apart and no work were done to it. i.e. shower floor drain was coming apart; plaster around the support under the lavatory were chipping off; door hardware were showing signs of deterioration. etc.
Massage services were availablein the Spa center; Pool table were available for guest by the bar. Water sports activities were provided i.e. snorkelling; scuba diving; kayaking etc.
Food choices were limited and were kind of dry, but OK.
Overall, it was a good facility with good staff. We would go back and would recommend friends to go.

Room Tip: Proximity to the main dinning cabana should be considered. All rooms have view of the ocean. 4 uni...

We escaped here from Puerto Princesa city and it was certainly worth it!

The staff were so lovely, the grounds were beautiful and the rooms were clean, large, well furnished and nicely designed.

The facilities were grear with table tennis tables, pool tables, enough lounge chairs around the pool (although you could not recline so had to lay on your back) - the pool in itself was amazing.

There are little beach huts scattered along the beach with are beautiful although the water around the resort is not the cleanest so we opted to swim in the pool but as mentioned, it was a fantastic pool.

The food in the restaurant was nice although there was not an amazing selection however considering the location and the resort, the food and alcohol was very reasonably priced. It is a great place for a quiet escape and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Oh, and the beds were huge and amazingly comfortable too. Bonus.

Service of the staff, especially in the restaurant, was excellent. We were a group of 14, which was quite a challenge, and they accommodated our needs as best they could. Very friendly staff, including the boat people.

The rooms were clean and just right in terms of amenities. Each unit has a balcony facing the ocean. The bay cottages were under renovation.

As for activities, there's plenty to do: beach volleyball, billiards, foosball, pingpong. Do not miss the lunch getaway to the white sand island. The sandbar was my favorite. It's not soft sand, but rather painful to walk on because of the seashells, but it was still amazing to be walking in the middle of the ocean because of the sandbar. Wear water shoes or sandals.

It's a shame that people are scared to go there because of the one isolated incident. This is a safe resort. They have taken a lot of precautions too, with several security guards who are strategically "invisible". You only see them when they are off-duty and are playing basketball.

Despite opposition from my family and friends to visit Dos Palmas due to the kidnap case back in the early 2001, my husband and I still persisted to go.

The resort reservation process was manual dealing of their local reservations staff in Metro Manila via email and fax. Although Ms. LARA JET K. LIMJUCO did everything necessary to help me with my reservations, it would be more efficient to offer online reservations including payment via Dos Palmas webpage.

Transfer Arrangements:

Dos Palmas was efficient in picking us up from the Legend Hotel. The driver took us directly to the wharf where we began our hour boat ride to Dos Palmas. The boat travel was very entertaining. We saw all of the islands that were part of the Honda Bay tour.

Security of the Island resort:

Let it be known that this resort has upgrade their security since the kidnap incident. The coast guard gun boat is within the vicinity of the island. All of the men working for Dos Palmas are trained to secure the island (combat trained).

Arrival in Dos Palmas:

Upon our arrival the welcome crew played the gongs. Once we came down they have us wooden lei and a welcome 4 seasons drink. We were escorted to our beautiful cottage upon arrival. The front desk person, Vince Migallos, was very attentive in giving us a brief tour of Dos Palmas and our cottage. He gave us the schedule of things to do in the resort.

Welcome Cottage or welcome deck:

We were very disappointed to know that the Welcome area was more of "decoration" purposes only. The water front cottages were not operational due to structural damage. It was the main focus of the resorts campaign yet it was not of any use for the guest except for a massage hut and karaoke singing.

Cottage Review:
The cottage is clean and adequate except that I was hoping they had a stereo to entertain us. Our cottage was a few steps away from the beach which was amazing. The room was neatly decorated with Hibiscus (or gumamela in Filipino).

We noticed that the safe inside the closet was not securely bolted which means the thief could simply walk away with the entire safe.

Restaurant:
I liked the idea of having name tags in the tables since the waiting staff could easily identify us. The good was sufficient but I am sure that they could upgrade the menu to more selections. The waiting staff gave excellent customer service each time we ate there.

The breakfast buffet was sufficient and they served a good selection of food. Robert Casas who was the breakfast chef was very helpful assisting me in delivering my food to our table. And he always made sure that the buffet has sufficient food, fruits and drinks.

Marine Sport and Entertainment:

I give my kudos and appreciation to my dive master, Floro Tabudlong (better known as Tabz). He gave me snorkeling lessons when I first arrived in the diving hut. He went snorkeling with me the entire time I was there plus a tour of the marine life in the area. He is definitely an asset to the resort.

Over all Review of the Resort:

The customer service of the resort is excellent. Everybody was welcoming and hospitable. Special thanks to the following front desk people: Vince Migalos, Maricel Agcopra, Lyke Cagatullan and Joche Deloso.

The resort definitely needs an update especially the Welcome cottage. Please do everything possible to make this usable or do not use this as the main focus of your advertisement and brochures.

Conclusion:
I would like to encourage everybody to come to this resort. It is truly a beautiful resort in Palawan. I consider this an exclusive private paradise. I would come back without any hesitation and recommend it to everybody that wants to relax.

Room Tip: Select the ocean front lower cottage.

We were here last October 22, 2012, we originally just had the Day tour package but we had so fun much that we felt the need to stay overnight. There are just so many fun things to do at Dos Palmas that we couldn’t just let it pass.

As an experienced traveler, it is very challenging for us to appreciate the best in every tourist destination that we go to because we can't help but compare it to the best places that we have been to. But of course there would always be key factors in rating a place/resort/hotel. The first for us would be, Service, which will be very challenging for most resorts because it has to be a collective effort from all of the staff from the front desk officer down to the waiters at the restaurant and one mistake from either one of the staff will be reflected on the resort as a whole. The Dos Palmas team was very hospitable and accommodating, just to emphasize our delight, so far they have the best customer service! They attended to every need and request that we had to a point that you’ll feel like a King/Queen. They were even nice enough to set up our Dinner by the pool area at no extra cost.

Second would be Value for Money, some tourist destinations like Dos Palmas is considered above average when it comes to price but believe me, it is worth every penny. Our villa is so nice that it is just very tempting to just stay there and sleep the whole day. The buffet breakfast was also overwhelming from the many choices from Filipino food to Continental.
And the last would be the amenities or the things that you can do while you’re at the resort. The fun never stops at Dos Palmas! This was the best part for us during our stay. Dos Palmas offers a wide variety of activities while you’re at the resort at no extra cost, They have a resort bike, kayak, billiard tables, tennis court, basketball court, ,Beach Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Darts, Kid's Playground and even KTV.

The best part of the activities would be the snorkeling; The Island is blessed with a rich marine ecosystem with kilometers of beautiful coral reefs surrounding the island. Most of our stay was spent at snorkeling; this is the best snorkeling site that we have been to so far.

Suggestions for improvement: Nightlife, maybe at least an acoustic band or solo artist playing while having dinner. Maybe they should also offer motorsports like Jet Ski or ATV tour around the island so that guest would have a bit more options for the activities. Also, the water in the faucet was a bit salty for use when you brush your teeth. And I also wish that they had more food choices to offer on their Menu.

Overall, we had a very pleasant stay at Dos Palmas, although they are currently having some renovations right now but nevertheless they make sure that this will never interfere with your vacation and they always make it a point to attend to your every need.

To top it all, there is just one negative thing about staying at Dos Palmas……..Leaving =)

So that is why most of the people who have been to Dos Palmas says “we’ll definitely come back” As for us, As a matter of fact, we are booked again this November to think that were just there last month! We just can’t help it, we fell in love with this place we call PARADISE!

Room Tip: They have a promo until the end of the year, just add 2,000 per night and your room will be upgraded...

You have to make reservation first for a day tour at 2,500 per person. This included early take off from the city to be picked up by the air-con bus that brought us to the Lourdes wharf for Dos Palmas. A big motorized boat transported us to the resort. Was a very nice sight as we traversed Honda Bay. We were welcomed and was given drink as we arrived. Lunch was delightfully satisfying. Personalized service for fine dining. Great food from appetizer to desert. This whole nice resort and its amenities gave us a nice unforgettable experience. We left at about 3 pm. back to the city.
