“Nice B&B and doesn't break the wallet”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2012

Casa Fuerte is a Bali themed Bed & Breakfast. I have stayed here many times, it is one of my personal favourites of Palawan.

The reception area is very nicely designed surrounded by Garden, Fish Pond and a lovely bamboo styled ceiling.

The staff are fairly quiet, keeping to themselves but also professional, ensuring rooms are clean and always ready to serve you.

The rooms are average sized, no issues with bugs here unlike most other B&B's. That is most likely due to the strict no food rule in the rooms. But plenty of tables just outside to eat from.

The choice selection in food for dinner is limited, and I found myself taking out after a few stays. There is no choice in breakfast, 2 pieces of toast, egg, teaspoon of jam / butter and either bacon or cornbeef. This can get old if your staying for an extended period but one or 2 days is usually fine.

The bar itself is pretty limited and usually out of stock of the most famous drinks.

The bathrooms I found to be nice in a different way, stone stuck to the floors, give it a real natural look. Though due to the size, one shower often results in everything soaked in the bathroom. So keep the TP out :)

The location isn't too bad. Doesnt take u long to get to the famous restaurants.

Overall Casa Fuerte is a great place to stay, lovely design, comfortable rooms, full cable TV, Hot and Cold showers and not a bucket in sight. Wifi on occasion can be a let down and very slow.

I'd recommend this Hotel. Due to the small number of rooms (18) they are usually always full so make a booking well in advanced.

we booked everything with them, trip to honday bay w/ lunch, underground river and firefly watching at a reasonale rate.
- free wifi

pros
- peaceful location
- reasonable rate
- nice ambiance, better than more than half of the b&bs in puerto princessa
- nice bar

cons
- quite far from the main city attractions and airport compared to other inns
- no choice oin breakfast, always 3 slices of toasts, tea spoonful of butter and jam with a piece of meat ( a slice of ham or corned beef )
- LOUSY customer service

i believe that im not a tough customer, i just want that watever is agreed, shud b accomplshd. we wer in a group of 6 w/ my friends the rate that was given to us for the tour states that our trips will be exclusive so itg was a bit higher than the regular rate but wen we arrived, we wer following a group of 4 people's schedule. where was the exclusivity they promised!?,we just let it pass since we dont want it to ruin the whole trip.

second incident was the booking for firefly watching, we had to travel 20mins by van to Iwahig river and wen we got there, there was no reservation according to the organizer. it was frustrsting that we had to wait for an hour because we didnt have any reservation.

they dont do the small things. the first night, i had a bottle of beer at their bar. it wasnt quite cold. so the folowing night before we left for our dinner, i asked the lady at the bar to put it in theri freezer for a couple of minutes so that it wil be cooler. i even offered to pay for it in advance to assure her. but when i got back she said that she couldnt do that. she should have said that in the first place!

our tour includes lunch. it was nice until the second day when we had the same set of lunch! as in excatly the same, grilled pork, same grilled fish, same vegetable dish, same adobo. it wasnt appealing the second time.

lastly, it was the trip back to the airport. our flight was 9AM and the airport is 15mins away. we agreed to leave by 730am. they prioritized a larger group and placed us on a different van. we left 820! we arrived at the airport and the counter was closed. it was jus fortunate that our airline stil accomodated us.

with those experiences, i wouldnt try again. ive had alot of trips alrdy in other parts, and most budget inns that we went to serve their customers alot better than they do! good ambiance ruined by poor customer service.

Room Tip: if by some unfortunate event, you had to stay here, dont expect everythng to go smoothly. be prepare...

We took their 4d3n package which included accommodations with breakfast, Underground River and Honda Bay tours with round trip airport transfers (PhP4,500 as of 17Feb2012). I was a bit disappointed in the rooms as it was not as pretty as pictured in the website. Bathroom however was lovely. It was small and cozy and is not the typical tiled one. It had gravel and cut up wood stuck to the walls which made for a unique decoration. Rooms were small and clean, with free wifi and LCD TV. Sheets and beds were so so. Breakfast was so so. Service was slow.

I loved their courtyard. It was a nice place to chill and have a few drinks after a strenuous day tours. Be early though; their bar closes at 10PM.

They would ask you for a deposit which should be returned to you after your stay. I forgot to get our deposit and I texted them. They informed me that the money was still with them, but I have not received it yet since its a weekend and banks are closed. I was grateful for their honesty because they could have easily said that they have given the money to me and pocketed it. BUT they had the decency to tell me it is with them and that they would deposit this to my account. Kudos to the staffs honesty :D

Room Tip: Don't choose rooms 9-11. It is located beside the kitchen and room reeks of cooked food.

Enjoyed our 3 night stay at Casa Fuerte, the rooms where clean and fresh, staff are nice and helpful. The courtyard was beautiful and quite serene, enjoyed a relaxing afternoon in one of their Cogon Huts just drinking iced tea (most of the guest are out). They serve tasty & affordable meals as well, but more options would have been great. The location although not on the main road, which make the ambiance quite serene & secluded, isn't hard to find. A good 5-8 mintue walk and you're already in their "taxi" service line ready to roam around the city.

Just arrived and had a very good impression of this warm, cozy place. A few minutes away from the city proper but its location makes it comveniently tucked away for a quiet, relaxing stay.

The receptionist, Wella, was very helpful and friendly. My husband and I will return here on our next trip to Puerto Princesa.
