The prisoners seem friendly and accommodating. I was expecting taunting and piercing looks but they were well behaved. The items they were selling were also affordable. I was able to buy a bunch of things for pasalubong.

Came here as it was part of the city tour. Bought some souvenirs from the souvenir shop. The inmates themselves will try to sell you their products. Bought a wood pendant and had my name painted on it for only 120 pesos. The inmates also did a gangnam style dance.
The place has a nice view and very huge landscape. They have their own place for souvenirs where all the things that is being sold are made by the prisoners themselves. Inside the Iwahig farm is a natural river where you can plunge in.
It is a long drive from Puerto Princesa but it is worth the visit to see the penal colony up close. Some of the original buildings are still standing.
I went to Iwahig to visit a good friend who is currently on holiday there awaiting his court proceedings. Was pleasantly surprised at this place which is a trip back in time with its old buildings and tree laden communities. Also made a trip to their riverside resort which is quite popular with local tourists. A nice side trip from Puerto Princesa!
I have been there many times. Still cant get my head round a prison without walls where you can talk to many of the inmates. Ask the driver to take you to the swimming area as it is gorgeous!
