Doublegem Beach Resort & Hotel Inc

Not a beachfront so dont be deceived! You have to cross the street to get to the beach. Limited view from the 3rd floor where we were. When we arrived they had land/property problems. The beachfront they were referring to is an extension which was fenced with barbed wires with uniformed securities guarding it. We couldnt use their cabanas nor their hammock as it was located there. Such a disappointment!

The rooms and bathrooms are big compared to the ones in town. The bed is hard but I dont mind but what I do mind is the pillow. It's so hard that it hurts my head! The blankets are just thin flat sheets, not enough for the cold aircon. So we asked for additional sheets instead. Their shower is big but it needs to have a shower curtain so the toilet bowl and floors wont get wet when showering. Electricity shuts at 6am, they have generators but they dont want to turn it on. I asked once but there's just too many lame excuses it's annoying. Too much whining and drama on his end. Neighbor's generator was pretty loud every morning that even if you'd like to sleep longer you'll be prevented from doing so because of that loud motor sound. Maybe you'll get used to it...? Or wear earplugs.

We booked a land tour with them the day before our supposed tour. We were told that our van will arrive at 930. So we were preparing our things in our room before that. We were at the reception area exactly at 930 but there was no van to pick us up. We waited til 10 and there's still no van for us. The person who booked us was in a hearing and couldnt be reached. Thank goodness the girls came in to the rescue. They called someone and in half an hour there comes our van. Tour pushed through an hour later from the original sched. When we came back from our tour the guy who booked us apologized and said that the van came at 9 and left when we didnt come out. What the heck ?! He was the one who told us that we were going to be picked up at 930!! And even if they came 30 mins before the agreed time arent they supposed to come down and ask where their guests are? They are so unproffessional! And they are even friends with this person who booked us! What a shame! Next time I will just ask the girls who is more reliable than the person in charge. Oh i forgot! They
dont have a manager there or a supervisor.

The food is just ok. Very basic nothing special. Good enough to fill our hungry tummies. The cook tries too hard to impress at times expecting to be complemented which i did. (Whaaat? I was hungry...) Breakfast are choices of processed food with omelette and rice. I dont know why they dont offer bangus or tinapa or danggit considering they are just next to the sea where there are lots of fishermen around??

The staff there were great! (Esp the girls) They were courteous, accommodating and they would do anything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. They're always smiling and very helpful. Ask and you shall receive. Our room was cleaned everyday. All you need to do is just tell them to. They respect your privacy so if you dont tell them they wont do it.

All in all our stay with this resort was average. I would probably come back here... Maybe. I just wish their land problems would be settled fast coz it's embarrassing to their part and annoying to the guests. A big disappointment to all. I would rate the resort 3 stars El Nido Standard and 4 stars for the nice staffs. If it not for the bookie i would have rated the staff 5! Before i forget, they should do something about the ants. They're all over!!

The Doublegem hotel had not actually had a grand opening when we stayed there in January and although they were still working on the landscaping, this did not hinder any service. I appreciate how long into the night the employees worked to finish the gazebo in time for us to enjoy the rest of our stay. The owner/manager Del and the entire staff were welcoming and made us feel at home. They took care of my parents during the day when my siblings and I went island-hopping.

I like Doublegem's location because it is in a quiet area with Corong Corong Beach within view and just a few steps across the small street. The hotel owns the land across the street on the beachfront and they have tables and chairs set up for guest use. The Corong Corong beach is small and the sand is not as white as the pictures of Nacpan or Boracay, but it is still a great location to view the sunset and walk on the sandbar in the morning. You can see the sea stars in the water at this time. You can walk along the beach to Los Cabanos, but make sure it is low tide because there are times you have to walk in the water and you will have to climb large rocks. I would recommend this trek only if you are bored with relaxing at Corong Corong. It took us 30mins to leisurely walk/climb to Los Cabanos to have an expensive beer (by Philippines standards) and enjoy the view from this point. We took a trike back to the hotel from this area cause the water was getting too high. From Doublegem, it is also easy to catch a trike into El Nido town (5min ride) as they are always passing down the street. Personally, I enjoyed hanging out near Doublegem where the staff felt like family and the only other tourists were at the hotel further down the street. Corong Corong is a more peaceful area to consider when visiting the El Nido area.

For breakfast, we had a choice of tuna or corned beef with eggs and rice. My eggs were cooked perfectly to my liking (not too runny but not overcooked). Aside from the grilled food prepared on the beach during our island hopping tours (with Midnight Sun), our best El Nido meals were the breakfasts at Doublegem.

If I ever returned to El Nido, I would definitely stay at Doublegem again.

The location of this hotel was fantastic; it was away from the crowded town proper. A previous review mentioned it wasn't a beach front property but don't let that scare you. it's directly across the street and it's exclusively for hotel guests. Watching the sunset and having breakfast there was fantastic. when the tide went out at night, you'll able to walk along the beach and explore sea creatures (starfish, jellyfish, sea urchin, etc.)

The staff was uber friendly and rooms are standard. Who wanna stay indoors while in El Nido, anyways? Breakfast was complimentary and wasn't too bad. Do keep in mind, if you order food from there, they run to the market to purchase fresh ingredients so it's not a quick turn around for consumption. If you have wet clothes, don't hang them in the bathroom. It'll get moldy quick. Instead use their clothes line on the other side of the reception area to hang your wet clothes. They don't automatically clean your room everyday but if they'll happily do it if requested.

Overall, it's a hotel worth returning too. The staff made this stay quick special. Thanks!

Having second thoughts in choosing this hotel for a week stay during the planning stage that turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The town proper was so crowded and not the ideal place for me and my wife to stay and have a good relaxing vacation. Doublegem's location is perfect.. Peaceful, quiet , clean and simple stay in El Nido, which made it memorable and worth going back with the whole family. Heartfelt thanks to the staffs Junnet, Renci, Annabelle, Frank and even the owners Del and Darwin are so hospitable. Good jobs guys and keep on making your guests stay in your hotel a blessed one. Looking forward to our return, im sure your swimming pool by the beach front will be done by then, but even without the pool yet, its already a great place to stay.

Room Tip: Any room from second of third floor will do for a good view.

Where do I start. This was our first trip to the Philippines and we were not to be disappointed. We stayed here for 6 nights and loved every minute. Yes the place is going through some minor construction nothing to worry about. The staff were brilliant from Mr Edmond, Redjem, Annabel, Janette and the every smiling JM.

We had the pleasure of meeting the owners Delia and Darwin who were wonderful and Delia was interested to know our thoughts on the resort and if we had any suggestions

On our return from island hopping on my wifes birthday Darwin had cooked beautiful tuna steaks and Delia provided some of her own red wine to celebrate. It was clear to see both Darwin and Delia have a vision of how they want their resort to look in the future. Doublegem has an absolute wonderful location and El Nido town is with easy reach by tricycle.

Each night when we returned from out visit into town we were greeted by JM, Annabel and Janette who would patiently wait up until the last guests returned. My son who incidentally had flew over from Oz to meet us, took great pleasure in updating JM of new music trends on Youtube.

The beach is across the road, the sea is safe, the view is breath taking and the welcome warm. I ask myself would we go back, yes is the answer, without doubt.

On a closing note. The day we returned to Puerto Princessa Delia and Darwin kindly offered us a lift and we gladly accepted and after a 5 hour plus journey we said our goodbyes.

We hope to return one day and meet everyone again. Thanks for an amazing time.

Fraser, Katherine and Simon Wallace.

PS: Delia I think I still have Darwins business card with his email. I will let you know when we hope to return.
