The Doublegem hotel had not actually had a grand opening when we stayed there in January and although they were still working on the landscaping, this did not hinder any service. I appreciate how long into the night the employees worked to finish the gazebo in time for us to enjoy the rest of our stay. The owner/manager Del and the entire staff were welcoming and made us feel at home. They took care of my parents during the day when my siblings and I went island-hopping.
I like Doublegem's location because it is in a quiet area with Corong Corong Beach within view and just a few steps across the small street. The hotel owns the land across the street on the beachfront and they have tables and chairs set up for guest use. The Corong Corong beach is small and the sand is not as white as the pictures of Nacpan or Boracay, but it is still a great location to view the sunset and walk on the sandbar in the morning. You can see the sea stars in the water at this time. You can walk along the beach to Los Cabanos, but make sure it is low tide because there are times you have to walk in the water and you will have to climb large rocks. I would recommend this trek only if you are bored with relaxing at Corong Corong. It took us 30mins to leisurely walk/climb to Los Cabanos to have an expensive beer (by Philippines standards) and enjoy the view from this point. We took a trike back to the hotel from this area cause the water was getting too high. From Doublegem, it is also easy to catch a trike into El Nido town (5min ride) as they are always passing down the street. Personally, I enjoyed hanging out near Doublegem where the staff felt like family and the only other tourists were at the hotel further down the street. Corong Corong is a more peaceful area to consider when visiting the El Nido area.
For breakfast, we had a choice of tuna or corned beef with eggs and rice. My eggs were cooked perfectly to my liking (not too runny but not overcooked). Aside from the grilled food prepared on the beach during our island hopping tours (with Midnight Sun), our best El Nido meals were the breakfasts at Doublegem.
If I ever returned to El Nido, I would definitely stay at Doublegem again.
