Lagen is already beautiful on its own, with a perfect view of the surrounding islands in Bacuit Bay (Miniloc, Pangulasian, Entalula Island), but what makes it truly special is the warm, accommodating and efficient service of its staff. From arrival to departure, they will make you feel completely at home with nothing to worry about.

In the 3 days we spent at Lagen, we were able to make us of their various top-notch services and amenities, including the island hopping activities and the wonderful and peaceful Lagen trail hike. A relaxing morning and picnic lunch at Entalula island is not to be missed, either!

Room Tip: Forest rooms are a good choice if you'd like to be near the pool and the Beach Club.

This island is about a half hour boat ride from Miniloc Island. This island is even more lush than Miniloc Island. It has a beautiful pool area and you can go on lovely walks on the trails. The food is exceptional and the staff and service is over the top. They are most accommodating and bend over backwards to look after you. This is the place for total relaxation with the most breathtaking views. The Philippine islands are beauty beyond description!!! If you are planning this kind of vacation, please consider this resort. You won't be disappointed!!!

Room Tip: Any room at this resort is absolutely lovely!

Lagen Island is the place to be because:

1. The resort is almost complete. The room (water cottage) is so relaxing while you view the school of fish just right at your room's terrace. The facilities are well-maintained, not to mention the pool that gives an alluring view of the sea,the library (I want a version of this in my house), and the children's playroom-so kid's inviting. When I get back, I wish there's already a sauna.: )

2. The staff are very accommodating, hospitable, and respond immediately to the needs of their guests. We asked for coffee in the room, hot compress, toothbrushes-Oh boy, they respond in an instant!

3. The experience is amazing! How? Avail of the one-whole day package of adventure! Be prepared: to see the captivating sunrise; to kayak in the big and small lagoon; to hike in the wilderness of the mountains, among others! =)

The royal treatment started at ITI predep lounge where we were served light snacks before walking the red carpet (!) to board the 50-seater plane. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by a singing group, and again, were served refreshments while waiting for our luggage. We then took a 1-minute jeepney ride to the jetty. We were greeted with lively singing of the staff when we arrived at the resort. They also gave cool face towels and a glass of refreshing pandan juice. We stayed in a water cottage and the view was just awesome! Whether you look on the right to view the picture-perfect sunset or you look down to see the colorful fish, everything was breathtaking. I should say I'm a bit biased here coz I just really, really love sunsets.
There was a good variety of food on the buffet but i liked the dilis (for breakfast), grilled squid (cooked just right) and the sweet, juicy prawns the most. Halu-halo for dessert was not bad. They also have 6 dressings for the salad - calamansi and mango are a must-try.
We snorkelled, trekked to the other side of the resort which has a beach, kayakked, rode the hobie cat. We also went to the Big Lagoon and the cave. There are actually more things to do if only we had more time.
I'll give 6 stars to the staff for their outstanding service. I have been to a lot of good resorts/hotels all over the world but the warmth and hospitality of Lagen is unparalleled. Special thanks to Abet and Dave who were very patient and helpfulwhen we did our water activities.
The resort being eco-friendly did not provide individual water bottles. Better bring your own jug and just refill.

Room Tip: I loved the water cottage #110

We went to Lagen via land trip from Puerto Princesa. It's another alternative for those who don't want to go through the straight flights. It takes around 5-6 hours by bus/van from Puerto Princesa to El Nido. It was a wonderful bus trip experiencing the view of rural life and bay sights throughout the land trip. We went straight to the El Nido airport where we were joined by those coming in from the Manila flight.

Lagen is a nice place. Stand-out service is immediately revealed from the time we were at the waiting area in the airport up to the time we left after 3 days. These included the boat men, tour guides, hotel staff and the management. I think we got what we were expecting in terms of it being a relaxing place. The rooms (we stayed in the forest-facing rooms) were spacious, aircon and water facilities working, a library for reading materials, a kid's activity room for my son, and a restaurant that catered to what I expected. Early morning greetings from the buzz of cicadas and the chirping birds was an added bonus. The resort itself does not have much as far as beach or snorkeling sights so it was mostly a time to just laze around and appreciate nature.

The island hopping was much better. Beaches were okay plus snorkeling was good enough around the islands. I commend the clockwork handling of the tours by Lagen plus they do not force you to go to a site if it is too crowded. They just inform us that there will be a short delay in order to allow the earlier visiting crowd to dissipate. Good-quality snorkeling masks, shoes, and life vests were provided.

For me, the plus side is that it really is a relaxing place to be. The serenity and the sights, even on the resort itself is, was enough for me to be rejuvenated. On the downside, although just a minor adjustment that could be made, maybe they can have more fans in airport waiting area to make it cooler especially during the summer heat.

No problems encountered, really, that could have dampened this trip. T'was really a wonderful vacation for us. Thanks to Lagen.

Room Tip: The forest rooms are a cheaper alternative to the water cottages if you are not after the sea view...

It was our first time to come to this wonderful place. It has the right amount of activities offered for a 3 night stay. Staff are helpful and pretty much knowledgeable about the island resources. Gardens are well kept, though it may need improvement in some facilities like in their library area & bath rooms. Suggest the installation of a fan or an air condition unit in the library area and exhaust fans in the bath rooms of the bedrooms.

My family of 6 spent 3d/2n on El Nido Island last May 24-26, 2014. We have traveled quite extensively for our vacations yet we all agreed this was arguably the most restful and enjoyable short stay we have ever had as a family - right here in the Philippines - less than 1 hour flight from Manila via ITI. El Nido Island is a truly Amazing Experience. Everything we have heard or read about is true - getting awestruck at the majestic 250 million year old limestone formations, snorkeling around the coral reefs to admire marine biodiversity - fish of all kinds and colors, shapes and sizes - including sea turtles and snakes, kayaking inside "private" lagoons, feeding and swimming with giant jackfish (talakitok), windsurfing and riding a hobie cat, even "bonding" sports like beach volleyball, birdwatching and spotting the rare and protected Palawan Hornbill right on your backyard or stalking the giant monitor lizards "bayawak" under your cottage, island-hopping and spelunking, swimming in the resort pool and "just chillin' as our young adult kids call it, reading a book or even watching the NBA Conference Finals in HD, enjoying the sumptuous buffets on every meal and most of all, receiving the wonderful service of the staff led by GM Mar Trinidad (who treated us to delicious home-baked chocolate cake and their signature dessert "Mango Madness"). Special thanks to our personal guide Kuya Marlon and Congratulations to El Nido Island Resorts - what every island resort should aspire for!

PS - My only recommendation is to provide Holy Mass on Sundays to worship God - after all it was He who created all of El Nido's natural beauty and continues to bless us all.
