“Complete activities in secluded island”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

This is one deserted island you won't be bored in. El Nido is a very organized group of resorts that is well managed and has a lot of activities to keep you and the family busy.
Rooms - the cabanas over the water are the way to go. The rooms do need updating as they are old and dated, the ammenities are basic.
Food - the hotel meals are part of the package and all meals are buffet. The food is good, not great, but they do try to offer variety for the stay.
Activities - definitely sign up for the different activities they offer - from diving, snorkeling, fishing, picnic in another island, cayaking, boating in a lagoon
Beach - Lagen itself has a very small beach, with a small shore line but the hotel has activities where they bring you to different islands in the area to see nicer beaches, take advantage of this.
We also went to a wedding here during another trip and it is the perfect place for a small wedding.

Room Tip: Get the cabanas over the water

This is an amazing hotel with a beautiful location. The service is top notch, they make sure you are comfortable and taken care of, with many activities to choose from. The snorkeling, kayaking, and surrounding islands are beautiful. The food is also very good at the hotel. It is not an easy ride from the Puerto Princesa airport. 5.5 hours by private van, with a very windy road. We are seasoned travelers and usually have no problem but this trip made us all quite carsick. However the hotel and area are well worth the trip. Lagen is probably a better choice for honeymooners, couples or families that must have a swimming pool and/or air conditioning in the rooms. For families with young children (who don't insist on a swimming pool) El Nido Miniloc is probably a better choice.

Stayed at the Lagen Resort a year ago and can not recommend this hotel enough. You have an entire island to yourself. The staff encourages you to do things each and everyday- for little to no cost. You can go kayaking, diving (Amazing), boat trips to the surrounding islands, a pantoon trip to the lagoons and snorkeling. You are so buoyant in the water you literally feel like you could swim for days! It's probably just as nice to stay in the forest cabins then right on the water (probably isn't worth the cost)..the water is shallow and you get the same spectacular views from the other rooms on the property.

Recommendation #1:
Definitely take a flight in to El Nido. We took a bus from Sabang (which another note is a must do) but the bus ride from Sabang to El Nido was harsh! Long, bumpy and exhausting.

Recommendation #2:
I would definitely recommend staying in the town El Nido before coming to the resort, it's a bit of a hastle to go to town. It's only a 40 minute boat ride but you are restricted times and it's costly.

All and all, i've been thinking of this place since I last visited and can't wait until I return!

Room Tip: For the value, Forest rooms are just as good as water villa. Same View- more $$

For the price you pay, airfare included, Lagen was such a disappointment. I've been to far better resorts at a lesser price.

For one, the resort did not have a beachfront. The water in front of the resort was too shallow. In order to enjoy the beaches, one had to go island hopping. While it's not part of the resort, the other islands were not as impressive as well. Coron has better islands in my opinion.

The room assigned to us (forest room I think) was pretty small. Although the amenities were ok, I expected a bigger room for the price we paid. Bedsheets were good, but the towels were pretty rough!

Wifi was also spotty at times.

The only redeeming factor of Lagen is the service. Other than that, I'd rather be some place else.

what a great experience! I went her last year and thinking of coming back again. Its a true paradise! I love almost everything about it, from rooms to food. FANTASTIC views of cliffs, mountains and the ocean! Also try to eat the cashew nuts they are making, its a MUST! Do not leave the paradise without kayaking in small and big lagoon because its a great experience. Its the place where I can actually see school of jacks just snorkeling. If you want to get out of the busy city and want to just chill and relax on an isolated Island, this is definitely the place! And hold on to your plane seats because the plane can be a really thrilling ride lol... ;)

Despite the hassle of getting to the island, the resort is worth it! Even a rainy day is sublime here. The staff are the best we've had, and tips are discouraged! They simply know customer service! My husband finally got to relax here. You will not regret it!

Room Tip: Water cottages on the south side has better views, my opinion.

We were on a backpack honeymoon trip to El Nido, Palawan. Instead of taking the private plane (ITI) from Manila-El Nido, we took the "RORO" Bus from Puerto Princesa.. It took us about 6hours with stopovers to reach the town.

Our pick up point to Lagen is at the ITI airport, where the boat to the resort was waiting. 35min boat ride brought us to the resort and we were greeted with local song, refreshing drink and handmade necklace. We got the garden view room, thinking of upgrading, but when we saw it, it wasn't that bad. The room has a perfect view of the beach and surrounding, its spacious, clean, well lit, aircon temperature is adjustable... everything is working perfect.

Everyday we feel like VIPs especially when we took the small lagoon tour, wherein all tourists were swimming to the lagoon.. unlike the guests of El Nido, were provided with kayaks. It was practical and easy since we were able to explore the insides of the lagoon. Also, there are islands exclusive to El Nido Resort guests like the Helicopter Island where we saw a newly hatched turtle, Entalula Island for our Lunch picnic and another exclusive beach where we had our setup private dinner.

Most staff are knowledgeable about how environmental friendly their resort is (waste management), Palawan Trivia, News and more.. Don't hesitate to ask, they are always willing to extend their service to guests.

Kudos, El Nido Resort! Can't wait to see your upcoming resort, Pangulasian.. They said it levels with Amanpulo in Cuyo Island, Palawan.
