“Exquisite location.”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

Verde Safari is truly one of a kind. The private beach is luxurious, the water is clear, the food is good. The location is great in some ways, i.e. escape everyone else, however you are then confined to the property. Doug is a very nice guy, he means well and wants to do everything properly...can't fault that. The problem is that it becomes too personal, you are always in such close contact that its more like a homestay than a resort/hotel. We felt pressured to go on the boat trip and to eat the fish. I don't know if it was coincidence that the fish was the most expensive item on the very limited menu and had to be used up within 24 hours. Don't get me wrong, we had an awesome time, there is just still work to be done. The rooms were nice, no air con, but there were bugs.

i stopped there for lunch randomly while having a motorbike trip around El Nido peninsula. The location is pretty awesome, the front beach is great and the garden well maintained. The lunch was nice and reasonably priced but quality better than elsewhere regarding El nido standards. The owner makes his own marinade for the chicken and it was greatly cooked.
Moreover i must say that this resort and its owner saved me!! After leaving Safari Verde i had a nasty motorbike crash something like 5kilometers away, my friends got back to the resort to get assistance , and the owner did not hesitate a second to take his pickup truck to get me asap to El Nido clinic !!! So i ll always be grateful to Safari Verde and its staff !

After we read the reviews we decided to stay away from El Nido town and go for Verde Safari. We were not disappointed. In fact, it was even more serene and secluded and relaxing than we expected.

We arrived with the bus from Puerto Princesa in the middle of the night. We expected to arrive at 11pm, but after a few plane delays and a late bus, we only left Puerto at about 9pm. Anne welcomed us in Puerto Princesa and accompanied us on the trip. Doug, meanwhile, was waiting for us in El Nido town. He ended up waiting for us till 3am (Thank you!), and then was still in a good mood, telling us a few stories about the area and showing off his offroad skills. When we arrived, we couldn't see much when we arrived, but we were definitely up for a surprise, when we woke up the next morning.

The beach is huge and the sand soft (beware of sand flies), the water is warm and there was literally no-one there, except for a few lovely kids from the village next to Verde. The food is great, the staff and owners are friendly and the rooms are exactly what we wanted: a nice and cozy bed, a functioning shower and toilet and purified water.

On our second day we went with Doug on a boat trip to an abandoned island, had grilled fish on the way and did a bit of snorkling. It was great to just sit on the boat, have a drink, relax, be in awe of the beauty surrounding you and hop into the sea from time to time.

Overall, an amazing stay and definitely worth coming back (from Singapore).

Doug and Anne, you built a lovely place there.

Thank you for your review. As for the sand flies, it is an issue in the El Nido area. However we do treat as best we can. If you experienced them we believe they are from the untreated parts of the beach. Also sunrise & sunset seems to draw the insects out more. We will however continue to create a peaceful & comfortable place for our guest to relax. Hope to see you again in the future!

Stumbled upon Verde Safari after renting a motorbike to tour the island. Stayed for lunch and after a lengthy sales pitch from the owner decided to stay a couple nights in the rooms. The beach is beautiful and empty and the owner let's you swim out to his boat to sunbathe/practice back flips. The rooms were lovely and the tap water is drinkable which was such a nice treat. There is no AC option and the generator powering the fan is turned off in the evening and middle of the night so can get warm from time to time. Unfortunetly the doors and windows aren't completely sealed so by night 2 we had visitors. The food was delicious, though the menu is very limited and it is your only option since there's nothing else around, but the beer genuinely is the coldest in El Nido, possibly all of the Philippines. The place was really nice and the owners and staff are lovely, it's just a shame he pushes sales so hard; for the rooms, his boat trip and even the food he wants you to eat. His conversations are very one sided and can be heard repeated like a monologue near word for word to other guests throughout the day. He has every reason to be proud of what he's built but it would've been nice if he let it speak for itself. All in all, if you want a nice beach away from the El Nido crowd, this is the place to go.

Room Tip: When it came to rooms vs tents we opted for a room, especially to take advantage of the dinkable tap...

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your review & the things you had to say. I do apologize if you feel I was the way you stated in your review. At the time of your stay, I was the only marketing tool we had & was merely trying to give you the best we could offer. We were very new at this time & being so far out with very limited options at the time, I was wanting to allow all available options to you. As for my conversation, well when you have no other English speaking people around....you tend to want to talk a lot. I know sounds crazy, but my wife was in Manila & the business was left to me to operate, manage, market etc. I do know your boyfriend told me personally he had no complaints & slept very well. So again, I do thank you for your review & we have made great improvements since your last stay. Please take a look at our website or Facebook & we hope you consider staying with us again. Salamat Po!

We decided to make a reservation at Verde Safari due to the excellent reviews on tripadvisor. I can only confirm that the revies are absolutely correct. The place is a little hideaway paradise. It is a 40 min drive from the town of El Nido and there is not much around, but if you are looking for a top beach that you have almost for yourself, this is the place to be. The place is run by an American and his Philippina wife who just recently established their home there. Next to their house they built a bungalow with two rooms, each with seperate attached bathroom. The owner takes good care of the place, the tub-water is purified and way better than in all places we stayed during our travels. If you go there I suggest you try the massage (400 Php/hour). A lady will come from the village, she is amazing!

Very private and cozy! Wonderful view to wake up to. Meals are always great, fresh and tasty. Quite far to go to but very much worth the trip. The people in the village at the back are friendly, staff and crew at verde safari are so nice and helpful. Really enjoyed the stay, very much!

Room Tip: Room or tent are both good.

If you are looking for a quieter, less touristy place to stay in El Nido, look no further and book a room at Verde Safari. The Verde Safari beach is secluded. When we went there last year, we had the beach all to ourselves so if you are looking for privacy and wanted to get away from the crowds and the tourist traps, then this is the place to be. From the town proper of El Nido, we took a boat ride and arrived around 20 minutes later. The place is unbelievably close to the beach front. You literally just have to take a few steps to go down the beach.

You have the option of renting a tent or a room for your stay. If you do decide to go camping, the amenities are modern and complete so you can still rough it out but at the same time, be comfortable all throughout your stay. The camp site is located in a vast expanse of powdery sand but is completely shaded by the many coconut trees that gives off a salty breeze that will lull you to sleep.

Arelle and Doug, the couple who owns this place, and their staff are very friendly and will accommodate any sightseeing inquiries you might have so you can maximize your stay in El Nido. There is also an in-house masseuse for an impromptu massage. You can also try your hand at rock wall climbing if you do get tired of the beach (although I find this impossible). And of course, a trip to the beach is not complete without a bonfire lit, which we had during our last night in El Nido.
