“Stunning Vistas let down by stunning poor service!”
Reviewed May 19, 2012 via mobile

We stayed here for 7 nights. Location is at Corong-Corong which is a quiet area away from the busier area of El Nido. This suited us but for Backpackers, it may be to far from the nightlife. The resort is on the beachfront and we were able to be in one of the two Deluxe Suites at the front. The views are indeed stunning and the sunsets are magical, though at low tide, because of the shallow beach, the view is less attractive. The shallow water is not very suitable for swimming. Our room was adequate and had a small deck in front. There is an on-site restaurant available only to guests.

While we were here, we never saw or were able to get in touch with the owners (we were told they lived off site) and consequently without there oversight, the staffing situation was dreadful! Our sink was blocked for three days before being fixed. If the Wi-fi was down, our queries were met with "I don't know" replies. Hot food was put in with cold food for our picnic lunch and I could go on......If you hired snorkeling equipment, you weren't told that Fins were extra!

This place has good potential but if the Owners continue to be absent then I would not recommend this place to anyone

Hi Rob,

Thank you for your input and we will remedy the problems. Hopefully, inspite of the difficulties with the sink and other irritants, you had a great vacation in El Nido.

We were in Manila for medical reasons and when we got back to Puerto Princesa, we got sick. Contrary to what the staff had told you, there is either my husband or I am on site.

We can't alter the beach/sea where our resort is located. We just have to enjoy what nature has to offer.

I am sorry that the staff did not inform you that snorkeling gears are not included in the price of the tour. Snorkeling gear is not included in the tour package with any legal tour operators in El Nido, as well, they are rented. What was the problem with food? Meat and fish are usually grilled on the islands while guests are snorkeling/swimming, so they are warm. Salad and rice are usually prepared before the tour leaves for sanitary purposes. Cooking is not allowed on the islands, except in Simizu.

We will investigate about the blocked sink. With the wi-fi, the "I don't know" answer is very irritating. El Nido is so remote that some of these luxury--internet, electricity, good phone signal are appreciated when they come by. Cloudy/windy weather sometimes could mess up the signal for wi-fi and telephone service.

Your feedback will help us focus on areas needing improvement.

We stayed at Stunning Vista for 4 nights in March 2012, and we were lucky enough to be given a beach front cottage. The views were absolutely amazing, and the staff were extremely friendly. It is a very small resort, with only a few rooms, but the room we stayed in was spacious and in excellent condition - the resort is only 2 years old, so everything looks nice and clean.

It is a short distance from El Nido town, but this provides the visitors with peace and quiet, as the town is very busy all the time, which may not be for everyone. It takes approx 5 mins to get to town on a tricycle, and it only costs 15 php per person during the day and 25 php per person at night, so it is very affordable. If you are unsure how much you need to pay for these rides, just ask the manager and he will advise you.

Stunning Vista has a deck that sits over the beach, and it was really nice to sit and have sundowners on this deck and watch the sunset - these were the most amazing sunsets that I have ever seen, and visitors would come from the other resorts in order to view them.

The room that we stayed in had a working aircon, as well as a TV with sattelite (although we didn't use the TV), and the resort also provides free wifi access (when their is power). There is limited power, but this seems to be the case in many of the towns in the Philippines. If I remember correctly the power would go on sometime in the late afternoon, and switch off again in the early morning. I think the resort does have a generator though as they were always able to provide cold drinks, and cooked food. The food at the resort was also good (much better than the previous resort we stayed at), plus the food was very reasonably priced.

All the rooms also have a small table and chairs on the patio outside each room, so if you don't want to eat on the deck, you are able to sit here and eat.

The only downside that I can think of is that the rooms were not cleaned on a daily basis, in fact our room was not cleaned for the entire 4 days - and when we did eat on our patio outside our room the dishes were not removed until we had our next meal - however this didn't bother me too much as all the good points far outweighed these.

This resort was extremely good value for money.

Just recently returned from my first trip to El Nido and I'm glad I chose Stunning Vistas. There are many lodging options within the town itself but I prefer the location of Stunning Vistas - it's in Corong-corong, right on the road before entering El Nido which is about a 5- minute tricycle ride away. What this means is tranquility, something which one can't have if staying right smack in El Nido.

Also, sunsets right in front of the resort is an absolute joy to watch (while waiting for dinner which can be ordered from their onsite restaurant). There's nothing like that in El Nido since the towering limestone karsts effectively cover any sunsets at all.

In a town with electricity running only for 12 hours, it's great to find Stunning Vistas offering electric power 24/7! I stayed 3 nights in the Standard Room which has a bed that was comfortable enough for sleeping. There's hot water all the time. WiFi is free and reliable. There's satellite-connected TV as well but I never even used it.

Brian, the manager, is always there if you have questions. It's good to see someone like him so dedicated in making guests feel happy. He can arrange pretty much everything, from island-hopping tours to massages to bus/van tickets. The rest of the staff were all friendly.

Stunning Vistas is not a high-end resort but it absolutely wins for its location and over-all best value for money. Highly recommended!

We stayed at their Deluxe (D2) room which is right in front of the beach. The view especially during sunset is simply stunning. The room is nice and spacious for two people. It has A/C and mini refrigerator. The only thing I didn't like is the almost see-through curtains combined with the sliding glass and screen doors of the room because we just couldn't control the amount of sunlight coming in the room especially in the afternoon. But, it was kinda nice waking up to a very serene view of the sea in the morning.

They have their own boat for the tours but unfortunately for us, no other guests were taking Tour C the same day as us so Brian, the manager, helped us book a tour in town. Stunning Vistas is very near El Nido town proper. It's just a few minutes ride by tricycle. But you can always walk to town and enjoy the view. But I would not advise anyone to walk at night because even if it's a relatively safe place, the street from town is dark.

They have a restaurant there if you are too lazy to go to town to eat. The food is delicious but nothing extra-ordinary and the price is at par with the other restos in town.

All in all, our stay was nice and I would love to stay here again if given a chance to visit El Nido in the future.

Room Tip: only the deluxe rooms are beach front and farther from street

This is by FAR the best value for money option for the places just outside of El Nido. I stayed a couple of nights in Las Cabanas and visited many options in El Nido town, but this is the best choice if you are on a budget and cannot afford one of the El Nido resorts (the nice ones). In general, the beach in El Nido town is horrible so don't stay there.

Positive:
* Hot water, WIFI and electricity (more than other resorts located out of town).

* Great location (5 minute walk to the best beach of El Nido - near Las Cabanas) and a 10 minute walk to El Nido town (couple of minutes/pesos by Tricycle).

* Great value for money - only RMB 1,250 for a room (which is OK).

Negative:
* The location next to the road is a bit noisy in the morning if you have one of the huts next located in the back of the resort.

* Food is not great, but good options in town and las cabanas.

* Service of the staff needs a lot of improvement. Uninterested youngish people, that seem like they want to cry, not really wanting to do anything for you (even taking your order seems too much) and LOUD!

To conclude, this is a great value option if you just need a good place to sleep and a base for island hopping trips, a walk to the good beach near Las Cabanas and not too far from El Nido town for the bars and restaurants.

After two days of trying to get to El Nido from Puerto Princesa, my partner and I finally made it to Stunning Vistas. We were able to make last minute reservations with no problem at a decent price.

The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk to town and while I found El Nido to be relatively safe, I would suggest walking only during the day until you felt comfortable otherwise. A tricycle ride is just a few pesos. And a majority of our time was spent in town, as there really isn't too much to do around the hotel. It's just a long street with other hotels.

The accommodations in this town are pretty rough, so please prepare yourself. We had a deluxe guestroom on the ocean equipped with a/c. There was a lot of sand and dust in the room and all of the towels were yellow with large brown stains on them. I informed the woman at the desk and they took care of it right away.

There's a restaurant on property, but I didn't have any of the food because nothing looked appetizing. I had a pineapple mango smoothie and it was really sour.

Wi-F is complementary, but the generator kept breaking, so this meant that we had many nights with no wifi, lights, or a/c. Each time it was fixed it would break again minutes later. Very frustrating escpecially because it would happen at 7pm or 8pm and we would just sit around with the flashlight they provided us waiting for the generator to kick back on.

The water is no good anywhere in the town so don't expect to be able to take a quick swim at any given time. Low-tide is during daylight and there's so much seaweed and sea urchins lurking around you don't want to take your chances.

The staff was very nice and a priceless tip is to keep an eye out for a tricycle driver named JoJo. A lot of the tricycle drivers will try to hussle you into buying their tours - which are all probably better than buyng them from one of the companies in town - but JoJo is born and raised in El Nido and knows the best places and people to meet. He helped us get a private island hopping tour and took us to some crazy hidden gems!

Room Tip: I don't think it's necessary to get the suite. It's larger and has a porch facing the oc...

We stayed at SV for three nights in feb 2012 and enjoyed our time there. The views are quite simply stunning as is the service from the manager Brian. It's a 5-10 minute tricycle ride from el nido but the rides are cheap and not hard to come by. There's not much to do nearby so it's fortunate that after a days activities in el nido its fab for relaxing on the viewing deck. Overall a really good place to base yourself near to el nido..
