My wife and I had a great 6 days at Greenviews Resort. David Gooding is a great host, the resort is teeming with plants and the butterflies they were meant to attract and various other animals that poke out from the shrubbery. All of the staff are friendly, professional, courteous and very helpful. Sometimes you need to wave a bit to get their attention and another beer, but I'd rather that than them hovering over your table.
The 2nd story bar/restaurant is very welcoming and airy with an excellent view of Corong-corong bay and the sunset. We found it a good way to meet other travelers or to have a quiet intimate dinner. The food was some of the best and varied we had in 3 weeks in the Philippines and the beer is cold. Don't miss the giant gecko's (Tukos) that visit in the evening - they are as beautiful as they are big.
All of the day trips (offered in El Nido are offered at the resort for very similar pricing. As the resort faces the destinations of the standard tours, I would say it is more conveniently situated for the tours meaning more time touring, less time getting there. The tour assistants are very professional and helpful and the lunch choices (veg, fish, squid, chicken or beef) are great and filling. A dry bag (even a big Ziplock freezer bag) is recommended for camera's and other sensitive items as some waves do occasionally splash into the boat depending on the weather.
The beach out front is beautiful but not ideal for swimming as the water is quite shallow for a great distance and their are some hazards that can be tread on (reef shoes recommended). The resort offers a free van trip to another IDEAL swimming beach about 20 minute walk away that is recommended (be careful here to as there are some hazards as well but are quite obvious).
We stayed in two different cottages. Cottage 6 is one of two directly facing the beach & view. The other cottage was directly behind it. As the view of the beach and sunset is obscured with coconuts and other plants, I didn't feel it was necessary to recommend #6 over the others. #6 is also close to the house on the neighbouring property and can have some smoke from their cooking fire and the usual noise of daily Filipina family life. Yes, there are roosters about, but we had roosters near our hotel in downtown Manila so one has to smile and get along.
The cottages were very clean - especially for bamboo/thatch. No problems with dirt or insects in either cottage. Some ants traveled the balcony (welcome to the tropics!).
We had aircon but typically used only the fan by choice. We had a mountain of laundry washed and it was very clean and folded for a reasonable price; give yourself a day or so as it is hung to dry. Motorccycles & motor scooters are available for rent from another business directly out front (be sure to ask for a rate matching the rates in El Nido town and save a wee bit ;)
There were only a very few mosquito's when we visited in mid December but they really were not an issue after a wee bit of repellent on the lower legs on some nights.
Our experience at Greenviews as the highlight of our 3 week vacation and I would go back in a heartbeat as well as recommend it to friends.
