Greenviews Resort Corong-Corong

My wife and I had a great 6 days at Greenviews Resort. David Gooding is a great host, the resort is teeming with plants and the butterflies they were meant to attract and various other animals that poke out from the shrubbery. All of the staff are friendly, professional, courteous and very helpful. Sometimes you need to wave a bit to get their attention and another beer, but I'd rather that than them hovering over your table.

The 2nd story bar/restaurant is very welcoming and airy with an excellent view of Corong-corong bay and the sunset. We found it a good way to meet other travelers or to have a quiet intimate dinner. The food was some of the best and varied we had in 3 weeks in the Philippines and the beer is cold. Don't miss the giant gecko's (Tukos) that visit in the evening - they are as beautiful as they are big.

All of the day trips (offered in El Nido are offered at the resort for very similar pricing. As the resort faces the destinations of the standard tours, I would say it is more conveniently situated for the tours meaning more time touring, less time getting there. The tour assistants are very professional and helpful and the lunch choices (veg, fish, squid, chicken or beef) are great and filling. A dry bag (even a big Ziplock freezer bag) is recommended for camera's and other sensitive items as some waves do occasionally splash into the boat depending on the weather.

The beach out front is beautiful but not ideal for swimming as the water is quite shallow for a great distance and their are some hazards that can be tread on (reef shoes recommended). The resort offers a free van trip to another IDEAL swimming beach about 20 minute walk away that is recommended (be careful here to as there are some hazards as well but are quite obvious).

We stayed in two different cottages. Cottage 6 is one of two directly facing the beach & view. The other cottage was directly behind it. As the view of the beach and sunset is obscured with coconuts and other plants, I didn't feel it was necessary to recommend #6 over the others. #6 is also close to the house on the neighbouring property and can have some smoke from their cooking fire and the usual noise of daily Filipina family life. Yes, there are roosters about, but we had roosters near our hotel in downtown Manila so one has to smile and get along.

The cottages were very clean - especially for bamboo/thatch. No problems with dirt or insects in either cottage. Some ants traveled the balcony (welcome to the tropics!).

We had aircon but typically used only the fan by choice. We had a mountain of laundry washed and it was very clean and folded for a reasonable price; give yourself a day or so as it is hung to dry. Motorccycles & motor scooters are available for rent from another business directly out front (be sure to ask for a rate matching the rates in El Nido town and save a wee bit ;)

There were only a very few mosquito's when we visited in mid December but they really were not an issue after a wee bit of repellent on the lower legs on some nights.

Our experience at Greenviews as the highlight of our 3 week vacation and I would go back in a heartbeat as well as recommend it to friends.

A few tips from the owner/manager:
- book well in advance for mid-December to April (busiest season)
- the front desk will happily take valuables and documents safe keeping

Room Tip: See comments above. Beach front is nice but the view is generally obscured by vegetation.

We stayed here over Christmas and had a really lovely time. The location is perfect, just on the beach with superb views and absolutely amazing sunsets. The gardens are beautifully landscaped with so many lovely plants, bushes and orchids, and as a result of this the most amazing butterflies.
The cottages are well appointed, good shower rooms and ours had a hot water shower ( the electricity goes off between 6am and around 3pm, so worth getting up at 5.50 to have a hot shower and then go back to bed ! Although also plenty of hot water in the evening
The wifi also works only when there is electricity , but the range is good and extended as far as our room .( If you need wifi during the day then the Art Cafe in El Nido has theirs working from a generator is is on all the time)
Our cottage was cleaned thoroughly every day and we had clean sheets and a great selection of fluffy fresh towels every 2 days.
We found the mosquito screens for the windows fine, the odd rogue mosquito found its way in but this is the case with all beech huts etc.
It does get a bit noisy as dawn is breaking , cockerels crowing , animals waking but that's really rather nice.
The food here is really superb but the only downside is the restaurant service, which was poor, slow and disorganised - but the food was so good that we ate here a lot and just factored in the wait and expected that not everything that you ordered would arrive , and if there was a long wait we chased up the order.
As a contrast the room cleaning/ servicing is extremely thorough and well organised.
If they can get the restaurant and bar service to be better then this place will be PERFECT.
Greenviews is in Corong Corong , just a very short tricycle ride from El Nido town ( only 30 to 40 p - depending on the driver! ) , and much better for being away from the hustle and bustle.
We took 2 of the island hopping tours organised by Greenviews and these were really amazing . We hired the boat just for ourselves and could work to our own schedule . Jesse our boatman was just fantastic ( he is independent as is hired in when Greenviews boats are fully booked ) , and he worked our trip the opposite way to most of the boats and set off early to get to the best spots first before the other boats arrived. He managed to find us an island just to ourselves for our Christmas Day lunch stop and bbq'd a real feast of pork, chicken, egg plant with rice and salad followed by fresh pineapple - all laid out on a low table with tablecloth on the beach. Vey special.
We also had a lovely buffet on Christmas Eve at the resort.
Dave , the english owner is a lovely guy, somewhat disorganised but his heart is in the right place, and he got up early to see us off when we were leaving and very kindly had us driven to the port by one of his staff.
This is a really lovely place ,perfectly situated and i would recommend it to others .It is good value for the high level of accommodation.

Room Tip: We had cottage 1 , right at the front only 3 metres or so from the beach , with the balcony overlook...

This is the place to go if you want to catch sunsets, which are really spectacular on some days (unlike in El Nido town where the sunset is blocked by huge rocks). The beach slopes gently and is shallow far out into the sea, making it ideal for families with young children. Our rooms were neat and clean though we did have some issues with bed bugs. The whole place probably just needs more pest control measures beyond mosquito screens. Dave the owner is very pleasant and welcoming though the waitresses at the restaurant could do with some smiling and more attentive service.

Greenviews was a wonderful place. A peaceful location and evidence of lots of care in it's design and running. The owner is a grey-haired Brit and great entertainment if you find that typical English approach to life funny.

Wonderful sunsets over the beach - the resort restaurant/bar looks directly at the setting sun in November. You're a 5-minute trike ride away from town, but it's easy to get a ride almost any time of day or night.

The place are okay with me its ordinary place like home, clean nice curtain, garden.but not best for cost. For me as a travelers good for family and group. If you are solo travelers not recommend the cost is not best and fit for. The place is 5 min from the town of elnido. Just look around their is lots of guest house and place to stay at town, near to access everything. The Greenview offer Island hopping will it a little expensive one. Wifi not good, food so expensive and not good enough for me, for 250, unlike at the town you have 200 overflowing food with great taste to Reminisce.

Room Tip: The room better if your a group choose add. matress and check out is before twelve.

We chose to stay at Greenviews based on good reviews and found it VERY disappointing. We were meant to stay for four nights, but called it quits after one. The room was very musty and the sheets were dirty. They had nailed them to the actual bed and the rust had left stains - worrying to say the least.

The food was not very good either. For an island that is famous for fresh fish, the grouper we ate was a few days old and cooked until it was dry. It was glazed in a sickly sweet sauce and was not very good.

The staff, despite being extremely pleasant, seemed to have a very apathetic attitude towards everything. They were utterly disorganized and seemed not to know what was going on.

We ended up moving down the beach to Coral Bay Resort, where they were very welcoming and professional. I would advise people to spend a little more money and chose a better place to stay.

Being 3 km away from the town proper of El Nido, this resort filled with flowers, vegetables and fruit-bearing trees offers a peaceful and charming place to stay. You wouldn't mind having to hail a tricycle every time you need to go to the town because the tryke trip costs only P10. Besides, the trip itself is so much fun as you get to glimpse the real lives of people in El Nido. If you want, you can even just walk. It doesn't take more than twenty minutes.

The manager of the hotel has been so friendly, generous and accommodating. She let us check in as early as 4am with no extra charge. (Usually, a resort will only let you check-in at 2PM, otherwise you pay for an extra night). In fact, knowing that I'll be bringing my 4yr old son, she added a small bed in our cottage - again, for no extra cost! That's how thoughtful she was! The cottages are spacious, very clean and very comfortable. Most have their own verandas. The ones that do not are cheaper. The rent already includes the use of 2 sets of towel per person. You can also wash your clothes at their laundry area. If you dine at their restaurant (which is exclusive to guests), they'll serve you soup and dessert for free!

Aside from peaceful, clean and green environment, another thing that this resort gives that the no resorts in town proper can also provide is a beautiful view of the sunset.
