“Nice beach resort..”
Reviewed May 16, 2010

The location is a bit far from sabang and if you don't mind the walk then stay here cause it's worth the walk. Especially the beach.. sand is much better here than in white beach.

The Food is so-so compared to the food in sabang. They need to increase their food portion.. The room is adequate for 2 people ,tight fit for 3. The bed is soft and we had a restful sleep for 2 nights.. The walls are only plywood so your neighbor or the people passing-by can hear what you are doing inside. Also if you are staying at the beach front rooms, you get the best views especially at sunrise, but it can get very hot especially at the afternoon. The doors are sliding glass doors, curtains are the only privacy you will get from your room, but it works for us since we appreciate the beauty of the sunrise more with those glass doors than staying on the main resort building.

The room price is excellent for those who are budget-conscious like us. You dont need to spend for a trip to coral garden since there is already a coral reef and rocks that are alike to coral garden that the boatman is offering for a measly price of 2000 php.

The things that i don't like about the resort is the smell of one of their pillows, we opted to use it as a backrest instead for sleeping because of the funky smell. And also their special treatment for foreigners. They did not even offered us welcoming drinks that they freely given to their foreigner guest...It left me with a bad impression. I know that they cater their service most of the time for foreigners but they should give fair treatment for the local tourist.

But all in all we would definitely come back to this resort..

We went to Campells and as soon as we got in the hotel we felt like we were a part of the family. Shirly in the bar is ever so helpfull and she helped us to get a very nice boatman that helped us not to be overrun of the many people who wanted to sell us something in the "low seeason". His name is Jun and he has the boat "the littele mermaid" look for him and he will show you a lot of nice plases.

The room we staed in was clean and nice. With fan and aircon. We stayed there for 6 nights first and 7 the next time we went back. The children didn`t want to go anywhere else... We had the greatest terass and wiew over the hole beach. Nice in the evenings and not far from everything. This summer we are going back again. Offcause to Cambells, Shirly and the boatman Jun again.

The owner was in Australia but we heard a lot of nice things about him.

The Campbell's Beach Resort has two things going for it and that is the view and the reasonable room rates,
if you don't mind the long 20-30 min. walk from sabang beach where all the action is, and you don't mined the indifferent staff, some what pricey food and the frequent blackouts where no electricity is available for hours at the times than this is a place for you,

PROS:
Very friendly and helpful staff & owner (leaseholder). Fantastic views, esp. from Penthouse rooms with large terrace, big fridge, safe & DVD/Sat TV. Australian owner is good fun, bought us a couple of beers, and also let us use his kayak for free (usually hire fee applies). Small open air bar with free wireless internet. Quiet bay, but only 10 min walk to Sabang beach (free torch available for night time walk).

CONS:
Food is a little bit expensive (same prices as the rest of Big Lalaguna & Sabang though), and not really great. Housekeeping services (room cleaning) was not very good. TV reception in room very bad (although very good in bar). Beach very rocky.

Just got back from staying at campbells. My first time there. Was referred by a friend and was not dissapointed. From the moment my girlfriend and I walked in we were treated like family by the friendly staff, welcome beer provided and the girls could not be more helpful.
The resort is located at the end of a lovely white sandy beach and the views are absolutly fantastic. You wake up onlyto the sound of the ocean waves, no chickens crowing or dogs barking.Rooms were clean and well appointed with hot water air cond and cable tv.
The place is run by an Australian guy who does not mind buying you a beer or 2.
I will be making this place my base when I go back to Puerto Galera later in the year.

I have stayed at Campbells off and on since the 90's, it recently change hands (about 4 years ago) to an Aussie who is quite nice and does not mind a beer to two. The views are great, but it is a long walk to Sabang. I guess it all depends what you are looking for, it's quiet, relatively cheap, and clean. Nothing too fancy, but for me an average joe scuba diver it's fine.

  • Liked — location, view and the staff
  • Disliked — water is a bit salty as getting fresh water for the shower in these parts is tough
