“Sunset at Aninuan Beach Resort”
Reviewed March 3, 2012

My family stayed for four nights. The people working at the hotel were friendly and helpful. The hotel is right on the beach, with lots of options for lounging about. It's a got a beach side bar, swimming pool and dive shop as well. It's also child-friendly. We took a hike into the forest down the Bogavilla Trail: http://www.patrick-cowsill.blogspot.com/2012/01/bogavilla-trail-aninuan-mindoro.html It's about ten minutes past the resort.

We'd definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: The new rooms at the far end are probably better.

There are a wide range of rooms and rates, much more quiet than white beach. And the best amenities of the area, i came for a couple of days and stay over 2 weeks

The transfer was excellent and upon arriving at the Puerto Galera pier we were met by Sunsets colorful jeepney and driven for 15 minutes to the resort. Checking in at the bar overlooking the sea was very nice but no welcome drink.
Our room was very conveniently located right in the middle of the resort between the cheaper (old) rooms and the very expensive new wing. We had negotiated a rate of about US$ 135.00 net which was much less than the rate originally quoted. But when we entered the room we soon realized that it was a VERY high price to pay for what we got, it was a very basic room for the price we paid I thought. The room was basic and old - like the old model wall mounted TV, noisy air-con, hard foam mattress, smelly pillows (that had to be replaced), balcony door with a broken lock, old style electric shower heater, no place for the bags and no proper drawers or wardrobes and it’s inside the bathroom, old toilet with a seat that didn’t fit, used hand soap in the shower and the new one in very old packaging and no hand towel or mini bar.
After getting over the disappointment of the room we headed back to the bar for lunch. My pork stew was inedible (very dry meat) and the chef’s salad was mostly cucumber and not ripe tomatoes and processed cheese.
We took a quick tour of the resort and saw a new looking dive shop between the middle and new wings. Then 2 joined up medium size circular pools. One of them was very dark and deep (for diving training?) The rooms in the new wing looked very nice and good furnished but for a quoted price of around US$282 net each - FAR TOO EXPENSIVE for Puerto Galera.
Dinner was disappointing just like lunch including a dried chewy steak for US$ 15.00. We had a nightcap and around 10 o'clock the resort had closed up.
The bed was uncomfortable as expected but we didn’t expect the traffic noise (motor cycles and jeepneys) through the night. Sunset is on a very narrow area between the sea and the main coastal road.
We had checked in for 2 nights but by the time we had finished the not so good breakfast we had decided to try to move to another hotel and the staff didn’t seem surprised.
I loved the location by the beach but based on our experience I would not recommend it to my friends.

Room Tip: The website is misleading..

I have been living in Manila for almost 6 years and Sunset has been my secret short weekend hideaway. Just a short 3 hours away from Metro Manila I am surrounded by tranquility, good food and excellent service.

Since one year there is a new wing which is even more excellent than the "older" part. I am an avid diver and since a few months there is a dive shop attached to the resort. So without having to worry about my flight times, my am now diving at least once a month.

If there is one place in the Philippines I should recommend, it is Sunset at Aninuan Beach Resort.

Room Tip: Rooms in the "new" wing have huge balconies for a romantic sunset... Rooms on the main...

Stayed here with my family and my father's family of 3 and my mother in law this January. I chose to go to this resort bec it is number one at Puerto Galera per tripadvisor. Haven't been to PG, I wanted to try the best. Tried to book this hotel 3 months in advance but was not able to. Tried to call the contact numbers, couldn't get hold of them. Sent an email, nobody answered. Do NOT SEND THEM EMAILS. Asked them about this, they said they prefer calls.

So when I came to Philippines called the number again and finally after multiple rings got hold of Lez. Between the 2 contact numbers I would call Lez, high chance to answer the phone.

The resort is situated at the peaceful and private part of PG. 10 minutes away from White Beach. The resort is located fronting the ocean. We booked 2 rooms with ocean views... lovely. There is a swimming pool, volleyball, billiards. You can sit in front of the resort and just watch the waves. Perfect for a relaxing day. There is also a bar overlooking the ocean.
The room is clean, decor is pretty. the bed is somewhat hard. The restroom has a terrible smell, not sure if this was due to the freshener used, or poor sewage system. There is a balcony, where you can watch the ocean.
The important highlights of my review is the food. The food is TERRIBLE. The price is expensive for its poor quality. We ate there on our first day. On the remaining days of our stay, we walked to White Beach for better food.
The staff were really helpful and courteous. The owner Lexy seems to prefer entertaining foreigners.
During our stay, we also went snorkeling via outside vendor (cheaper). the snorkeling area here is GREAT. Highly recommended.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. I will be back, but definitely not eat there.

Room Tip: Get ocean front rooms

Great location on quiet beach. Not as nice a beach as White Beach around the corner but a little more relaxing and still enough sand for sunning or playing- although once you get in the water its very rocky. Nice pool also on the property if you prefer. The whole place has a great relaxing feel to it located right on the beach with hammocks and lounges scattered around for lounging around. Great little bar/cafe also beachside provided good quality reasonable priced food- best Aussie pies (which may not fall into somes idea of good quality food) in the Philippines. The cocktails also were fantastic . Stayed in the new wing and rooms were comfortable, clean with nice balconies overlooking the beach. No wifi in the rooms but easy enough to access by the beach or bar. Staff are fantastic and were happy to help out with babysitting if needed, Sir Lez is also the perfect host. A perfect weekend escape from Manila! PS. Just a word of caution on trip over- if taking the direct boat service from Batangas it can get a bit bumpy if traveling with kids and may be recommended to take larger boat to nearby wharf and use the hotel transfer.

Room Tip: Connecting rooms in new wing recommended for families
