Tamaraw Beach Resort
Reviewed April 28, 2014

We stayed here for 4D3N. The room was clean and spacious. We had a good balcony view. Perfect for those who prefer to have a quiet and relaxing ambiance. We managed to walk down to White Beach a couple of times, through the main road and by the shoreline via the Pizzeria. Trikes were also available. Php100 from the hotel to the main town and I guess the price was all the same for any locations near the white beach area.

Tamaraw Beach Resort has been recommended by a friend for having low rates for backpackers on a budget. They have fan rooms for those on a reaaally tight budget. They also had cottages.

Anyways, I booked a deluxe room at their high-rise building @ Php 2300.00 per night. Not bad at all, considering it's located at the beach-front.

What I liked:

1. They had free shuttle to take to to and from the Resort (which was around 15 minutes drive away from Muelle Bay Port).

2. There were chairs and a table in front of each room where you could have breakfast while taking in the beauty of the beach / bay.

3. The water in the shower heats real fast.

4. Reception / lobby is very nice. Gives you a true-resort feel.

5. Public restrooms at the reception area are clean and smelled fresh. All cubicles have bidet. Well-ventilated too.

6. Mariners Dive Shop is just around the corner -- literally.

7. The place is very clean, quiet and peaceful, much to my delight. (Most guests are Europeans who only wanted to bask in the sun, or go diving. nothing that caused unnecessary noise.)

8. The swimming pool has pristine waters and has a considerable number of pool lounge chairs. Too bad I was not able to enjoy it to the fullest since my days there were packed (scuba diving, jetskiing, motorcycle ride to Tamaraw Falls, night boat ride, all jampacked in 1.5 days!)

What I did not like:

1. Front Desk staff are not accommodating. In fact, I did not feel even the slightest warmth from any of them.

2. They seldom promptly answer mobile phone calls and text messages. Note: they have no landline.

3. Most staff (those not from the front desk) does not know what time the shuttle leaves the hotel, how much an extra shuttle service costs, etc. Product knowledge: POOR.

4. No phones in the rooms.

5. Room 409 has a defective, and unsecured door lock. When I asked to be moved to another room, they did not look happy about it. They made me feel like it was such a hassle. They did not even apologize for the inconvenience.

6. Room 408 has a better, safer door. but ACU was veeeery noisy I couldn't sleep even after a few sips of red wine.

7. They charged an additional Php50 for food and bev served in the room. While this is normal for in-room dining, it was the manner they told me about the extra charge that made an impact. It was delivered in a way that made me feel as if I could not afford an additional Php50; THAT or they deliberately made it sound like it was such a big trouble to do it; thus the surcharge.

8. No "Thank you" was said nor any pleasantries given upon check-out. Staff were as cold as ice. (I am a Hotel Manager which is why I am very sensitive to the quality and warmth of service).

*****

Now since I used the room only for sleeping, I thought the lousy service will not be an issue, but while I am typing this I realized it would have been a perfect stay had they been more friendly and accommodating.

I may be back, yes, only because Tamaraw Beac Resort has probably the most quiet and peaceful area (as compared to White Beach and Sabang).

Room Tip: 409 has a defective lock and a wide gap between the door and the door jamb. 408 ACU is very noisy.

The 1st thing that comes to mind when I think of this place is ....peaceful..not very far from the main town and white beach...the rooms are nice..the place is very friendly and always accommodating your requests..if u plan to stay try to get the premier cottage...just next to the beach..and very breezy when you wake up..u can see the lovely sun rising..would recommend for a family get together..barkada party or just if you want to spend alone time..here is only 1 suggestion...since on vacation you are supposed to be lazy :) and when u are lazing around in the pool...you need beer and there is no service and if you need anything you end up going to the main dining area and ordering..too lazy to walk ...so better get your own beers...else the place is worth the visit..especially with all the noise lights bar scene in white beach..cheers Ll and happy holidays to anyone who goes here..

Room Tip: Premier cottage Beach side..close to the restuarant and close to the beach ..

While White Beach is the most popular among the beaches in Puerto Galera, it is not recommended for those who would like to have a quiet place. White Beach is surrounded with bars, making it noisy at night. With such, the neighboring beach presents a perfect alternative. Tamaraw Beach Resort is highly recommended for those who want a more relaxing beach. I liked how big their room was. It even has pull-out beds. They have a swimming pool and a restaurant. Their best asset would be their beach, which was very clean and obviously less crowded than White Beach.

A beautiful place to visit. Clean hotel/ reception/ rooms, friendly staffs, good food. The ambiance is very relaxing from the beach to the pool. They also offer snorkeling and island hopping. Great for couples who want a quiet place. Also great for family bonding. We will definitely go back there! We had a blast! :)

Nice little spot as it was not far away from White beach but far enough from the hustle bustle.
However, a tricycle to/from white beach cost 100 pesos which is very pricey from that little distance. Took about 10 min to walk there instead (walk up the road to the Pizza place, and take the long staircase down to the beach!).
Stayed in the hotel building the first night which was a bit of a hassle for us as we were travelling with two small kids and they placed us on the 4th floor. The room was ok, could have been cleaner. The stairs up (no lift) were actually really dirty.
Since there was a bungalow available we chose to stay in one of those for the remaining of our time there. The bungalow were super basic, but clean. Good hot shower! The location of the bungalow was right on the beach which was lovely and perfect for the kids who loved it!! Unfortunately the first couple of days some construction work was going on during the day so it got quite noisy. Also the end of the resort were our bungalow was, there was some litter around which we assume were from the workers, but that got better during our stay.
The resort also had a pool which was a nice little feature, also loved by our kids.
A downside were that they did not provide safe in the room. Just generally there were not any security around the resort premises.
There were no other options near the hotel for food so that was limiting, We however found the food at Tamaraw good and with reasonable prices. They provided free hot/cold water in the reception which was handy when making bottle for the little one.
Service was ok. Almost always attentive staff, always friendly. The back the pipe to the toilet was leaking in our room which despite asking the engineer to check on it several times, never got fixed. We ended up putting the ashtray under it and emptied that once a day which was enough.
Unfortunately they had no service on the beach for food and drinks. You could go up to the restaurant and order it down to the beach however.
Wifi was available but only at resto/reception.
We had to leave for the boat early morning our last day and they had arranged the shuttle service for us. However the driver never showed up in the morning and the staff there didn't know how to help up which resulted in us jumping in tricycle to catch our boat. They did email us to apologise for this, but it really was a shame that no-one was willing to help us as it was quite a stressful moment with the kids and all luggage etc.
Overall though we had a very good and peaceful stay!

Location is good since its away from the white beach. They have attentive staff willing to help and go an extra mile. The food is ok but it really takes time before it get served. The downside is the low water pressure in the shower (we are in the 4th floor) and no complimentary water / coffee in the room..

Overall our stay is satisfactory.

Room Tip: The stairs feel like its not properly measured (height). Choose rooms maybe 2nd floor. We stayed at...
