Surprisingly good pizza and pasta in Sabang, Puerto Galera. The pizza came out of a wood fired oven imported from Italy, and the pasta homemade. It is a very tiny, unassuming place, with I think three tables. The owner is a Canadian retiree named Hank who lived most of his adult life in Western Australia, and apparently learned the trade from Italian immigrants.
It's the little details that make the food good. eg. homemade pasta for the spaghetti bolognese, and the ragu had a real depth of flavour as it was made from shredded beef stew meat that had properly simmered for hours, not typical boring mince. Pizzas come with all imported charcuterie and cheeses, and amazingly, there's no extra charge for extra toppings. Oh and there is a no-pay guarantee too if you don't like your food.
The owner also sounded very proud of his burger- prime aussie beef, home-baked bun etc, so I guess we will be trying that next time.
