This is my first review, but felt I should write one so others do not make the.same mistake as we did.

Based on all the other Trip Advisor reviews, we thought we were booking into Puerto Galera's number one resort. Boy were we surprised! It is very basic. Grotty in fact - they even let dogs from the beach sit on their common area sofas along with the guests.

We stayed our 2 nights and left. There are many other better resorts (true resorts) just along the beach.

Room Tip: Book another resort

Hi

Thank you for your stay at Blue Ribbon

If you had read the reviews, you would realize that we are a Dive Resort, and most of the reviews come from divers. This is why we are number one, we offer great diving, with great Instructors and Divemasters with affordable accommodation. This is what we say on our website. We are not a 5 Star resort. We do offer 5 Star service though, we have great staff that will accommodate your every need. You will not find better value on the beach.

We do not let street dogs on our Sofas. We have a long staying guest, that has a Chiwawa. Harely has become a bit of a mascot for Blue Ribbon, I thought all guests seemed to like him, I guess some people just don't like dogs.

You say our rooms are basic. They all have air conditioning, a safe, a TV, a Minibar, and most of them have their own terrace overlooking the garden (No other resort on this beach has a garden as beautiful as ours). For 1,200 pesos for divers a night, what are you expecting? We have been updating the beds in some of the rooms, now about 1/2 have great beds, and some of the older TVs from before we have been updating to flat screen TVs. We expect to have all new beds and TVs in the next few months.

Grotty? I think that is a little unfair also. It was raining for a week during your visit because of a low pressure area, are you sure this had no relation to your review? The rooms are cleaned daily, and the bar and restaurant is always clean. Our Garden is looked after by our groundskeeper who has planted every plant and tree himself over the last 25 years. The garden is his pride and joy. I am just wondering what you found grotty?

We do ask guests if they have any issues at all to speak to one of the management, and we will do what we can to fix the problem. If you don't tell us, we can't do anything.

Thank you

We stayed at Blue Ribbon Dive Resort for five days and enjoyed every piece of it! The owner and staff were extremely friendly, helpful and with a great sense of humor. Rooms are clean, spacious and the fridge provide you with water, beer and snacks for very reasonable prices.
The dive instructors are very skilled and professional! We had the pleasure and fun of diving with Jon through an Advanced Open Water course - and this brought us to many amazing dive sites with excellent visibility, interesting wrecks and big schools of fish. All dive sites are within 5-10 minutes boat ride making it possible to enjoy the beach and great restaurant at Blue Ribbon in between the dives.
Jon, Baz, Julia, Marc & Co, thanks for a great stay at your place!

Simple but spacious cottages, refreshing pool, knowledgable dive masters, and a really good restaurant (the Thai dishes and club sandwich were excellent). From the moment we started planning our visit, our every whim was catered to. Excellent dive resort.

For a dive resort Blue Ribbon is the best value in Puerto Galera by far. Recently renovated spacious cottages offer amenities normally available at more expensive properties, such as fridge (minibar), safe, all rooms air conditioned. Small but nice swimming pool has recently been completed which is a nice feature as well. Food is good with a menu which offers variety, and the kitchen offers theme nights which increases the choices. Staff are very friendly and helpful, dive shop offers personalized service, a knowledgeable and experienced staff, PADI certified courses at competitive price, overall this small resort is by far the most sensible solution in Puerto Galera

I just came back from the Philippines and I ended my trip with a week stay @ the Blue Ribbon resort.

I have nothing but great things to say about the resort, both because of the place itself (really nice, very clean, great location) and because of the staff, which is extremely friendly and genuinely welcoming. Special mention to Julia, the Manager, who's just as helpful as nice.

Diving wise I also had a great time. Saw plenty of things I had never seen before (though I've been diving for ten years) and did all the dives I wanted, in the places I wanted (thanks Baz!).

Overall, I coudn't wish for a better place to stay in Puerto Galera. Will be back for sure!

Room Tip: If they're not fully booked, ask Julia, the Resort Manager, which room to choose (either nicer, in front of the pool, close to the dive shade, ...).
