I and my friends' first time in Puerto Galera wasn't good of an experience.
PG is soooo overrated. It's not even close to what Laiya or Bolinao could offer. The beach is rocky and rough. The water's weedy. Thanks to its promiximity to the Metro, it has become a destination for many to escape from the summer heat but then again, if you have the resources, better opt a stay in Boracay or someplace so to not spoil your search for peace of mind.
Nightlife was boring. You have very limited choices of local bars to dig your butt into.
We reached PG at dusk after the riding a boat from Batangas Pier to the island of Mindoro. It was post summer time when we came and there were still quite a number of packs in the island. My tired friend was convinced by one of the beach bidders to stay at V&M Resort Hotel which is one of the low rise hotels along the shore (I am not sure though why Filipino hotel businessmen are used to having their properties near the beach to come along with the word 'Resort' even if it doesn't really offer a single amenity of what a real resort-type hotel really does).
So, there it goes, we were offered one of the dimly lit rooms at the lower ground of the four or three storey building (not sure). We got two beds. A crappy, tight, aging bathroom. A small, fat TV. All in all, it was pretty basic. It's one of those hotels that you pay the tangibles without any service being added.
The only thing good about the property is it's proximity to the beach. That's about it.
