“Dinner at El Nido”
Reviewed December 30, 2013 via mobile

Great dinner... Reasonably priced, massive meals so if you are hungry... Come here...

The menu has a wide variety but we felt like Italian and we had a vegetarian pizza cooked as good as I would expect on Lygon st in Melbourne and a Seafood medoly fettuccine along with a chicken korma just because we could....

Staff were very very good... Took out orders promptly and with a genuine smile.....

Then there is the view at night time with the lights and lapping water ...

Definitely recommend after a long day diving...

I've been to another "high end" resort there as well as in other destinations in the Philippines. This resort rates right up there at the top and is very professionally run. The rooms are situated around the property and I had the Seaview room directly above the restaurant area. Very clean and comfortable.

The food was very tasty, a large variety on the menu, and great service.

II was particularly impressed with the dive ops management. Everything was located on a large (and the only one in PG) elevated dock and the access to your dive "locker", rinse tanks, gear set up, hanging racks, and the boats is exceptional. The staff insisted that you don't touch any of your gear after you ring it from your room and all of us (12) took advantage of this.

I highly recommend you consider El Galleon first!

Room Tip: Choose a poolside room if you don't like to climb stairs.

Excellent experience! We organized a trip for two families and some singles. El Galleon was able to accommodate us exceptionally well. Anie was an excellent front desk staffer that took care of our whole trip. Very pleasant and professional. The rooms are quirky and make you feel like you are living in a tree house. Until you open, and they are clean and comfortable. Bathrooms are top notch. Our daughter got her Junior Open Water Certification with Matt as an instructor. Patience has got to be his middle name. He was cool and calm, and I would recommend him for any instructor, and especially kids. The rest of the team, Troy, Jamie, Smarty, and others, were professional and exuded their love of diving. Wonderful and affordable. Only drawback is the only way there is by boat. The water can be a little rough, especially during storms so be prepared. Just whistle Gilligan's Island them song and all is good!

El Galleon is nice resort operating in conjunction with Asia Divers which seems to have the best dive operation in Sabang Beach currently.

Having been all over the world and staying at all different levels of hotels this place is Average.
It has good points and bad points.
The good points are: the rooms are clean and well furnished for Philippino standard. (Not western)
Considering the cost, it's not a good value. It should be up to western standard.
The Restaurant is charming next to the ocean with great view.
But the food is average.

Internet is provided free for the guest but because of too many users, it was un-usable.
More than one wifi router is provided which even covers the very top Ocean view room but I could never connect. (I work in I.T.) Somebody probably went into the router and changed the wifi password.
My phone had better internet coverage.

Staff is friendly and attentive but not top rating level.
They're almost like family.

It's charming and comfortable but to give it 5 star at the current cost... Must be a relative so the review is useless or somebody who hasn't travelled very much.

Did take some time to see other resorts and I think El Galleon is better of the resorts available on Sabang beach. Red Sun looks the best but I think they cater more toward Koreans.

Asia divers appear to be the best diver operation with the most comfortable boats but due to water shortage they wouldn't replace the water in the rinse tank for the whole day. By end of the day you can smell all the sea scum and piss. I refused to rinse my Expensive gear in that filthy water.
The dive helpers do a good job setting your equipment up and getting it into the boat.
They provide individual baskets and hangers to hang your gear at the shop.
Getting into and out of the boat from their personal dock is the best.
The ladders on the boat extend low enough that you can get back into the boat comfortably.
So why they choose to save a few pesos on water is confusing.

I do plan to stay here again but not with over inflated expectations that some reviews give it.
It's a charming 3 star hotel that's on the expensive side.
But I would switch to another resort in a heart beat if I knew it had much better internet access.
It's one of the better resorts on Sabang beach.

Room Tip: The pool view rooms are located right behind the Restaurant on the ground floor and 2nd floor. The...

This review has been a while coming so I'll do my best to condense many visits to this resort into one review.

Put simply El Galleon is outstanding. Spend the extra few dollars & get a room with a view. There's a few steps but the views over Sabang bay are worth it. Try the penthouse with it's own entertaining deck. Absolutely brilliant.

The Point Bar is rightly iconic in these parts. Here you can enjoy a frosty beverage, win yourself a t-shirt, enjoy the breeze & views & make some great friends.

Restaurant is consistently good & you can't go past a freshly cooked omlette for breakfast.

Asia Divers which is part of El Galleon is simply the best diving operation in these parts.

On my second visit there the owner, Alan (a bit of a legend in his own right) got wind of the fact that it was my birthday in a couple of nights. He promptly organised a party at his pool. He layed on the chef, food & drinks. We had a great night !

Look you can stay at cheaper places, dive at cheaper places & eat a cheaper places but lets face it the Philippines is ceap by western standards anyway. Spend a few extra dollars. Stay at El Galleon & dive with Asia Divers.

I miss this place & I miss the friends I made while staying there. Mabuhay to all the great staff at El Galleon. The worst thing about staying at El Galleon is that, eventually you have to leave...

What a holiday, El Galleon, as other reviewers have mentioned is a 'nice' hotel. But that doesn't really do it justice. Quirky rooms, set in trees and plants, with a relaxing and welcoming (and delicious) open air restaurant. The range in rooms is huge, we went for basic which was just what it said but perfect for our needs (we only slept and showered there!) but we saw the more expensive rooms which were stunning with a view to match. The staff are friendly, make the effort to know you, your name and your general preferences.

Then we move to Asia divers, I have never experienced a more organised and efficient yet friendly and personal diving school. Again, they know your name, they can tease and chat with you as well as demonstrate their impressive knowledge of the diving around the area. The dive sites themselves are heavenly, I am a more experienced BSAC Sports diver, where as my husband actually did his PADI Open Water while we were there and they effortlessly catered for our varying diving needs, along with everyone else there! The boats are wonderful and the men working tirelessly, driving, moving kit, checking cylinders and everything in between always have a smile. It is also worth a mention that Asia Divers is the only dive school along that coast line which has its own jetty with a shed for numbered crates and rails for your kits, rinsing and drying racks and a brand new compressor, air and nitrox. The jetty also means you can step straight into the speed boats/bankers without having to trail down the beach and through the sea with your dive kit.

Of course no mention of El Galleon would be complete without Point Bar, which some how manages to be a friendly and welcoming place for a coke with your family watching the sun go down, a slightly dive-y place to have a drink and compare the size of the sea snake/frog fish/ banded pipe fish you saw earlier, and the best place in the world to drink the evening away..helped along of course by the shooter t shirts, 7 of them to achieve and each one more 'interesting' than the last!

Sabang itself feels like the real Philippines and Puerto Galera is worth a walk/Jeepny ride to, but El Galleon, Asia Divers and Point Bar are what will definitely be calling me back again and again and again!!

Room Tip: The higher rooms are a better standard but up between 30-50 steps. The best option is the pool side...

room was clean. Booked ocean view room and it does have a partial view but trees obscure most of it. It is 66 stairs up. I didn't mind this, but I'm in good shape. Other fat people and out of shape people complained. Hot water in shower came, but took a while. Wifi worked at times in room, otherwise only in bar/restaurant, and was always kind of slow.

Restaurant service was good, and food was good, but not amazing. Diving was professionally run. I would stay here again.
