Banaue Hotel and Youth Hostel

If you don't want to stay in a backpacker-type place, Banaue does not have much choice except for Banaue hotel. Rooms and decor are cozy and views are stunning from the restaurant. However, the rooms need renovation, the place looks run down and tired. It's not that clean and the food was pretty terrible.

Banaue Hotel and Youth Hostel. The only real hotel in town. Stayed overnight, clean room, friendly staff, good food w/ free breakfast. Reasonable rate. We called in our reservation, but it was logged in their list. We're lucky that there was a room available for one night. Accessible to town with tricycle, which can also bring you to the vista points of the different rice terraces in the area, including a visit to a replica of an Ifugao village.

Convenient for visiting the rice terraces. The area is very hilly with this large concrete hotel built on the hill side. Buffet breakfast. Evening entertainment by local tribal people.Good security. Pleasant rooms. Large parking area as many coaches and people carriers park. Most day trips involve a fairly long arduous drive.
If want to visit the terraces this involves a very steep decent on steps through village huts down to the bottom. Remember you have to ascend once again. Take plenty of water with you. There is a little restaurant half way down which serves really tasty chicken. If the sun is shinning take some sort of head cover.

Banaue Hotel is old and worn down, but we were happy that the rooms and bathrooms we had were clean and well maintained. We also appreciated the hot water. We found what we needed during the breakfast and other meals we took there. The staff was always helpful and kind with our children.

A large ugly building perched on the edge of a valley with fine views. When looking from the other side of the valley though, this building just looks wrong. Internally, it has a huge lobby with a very high ceiling. There is a wood fire there which is welcome. The rooms are basic but acceptable. We found the service in the restaurant to be hit-and-miss and sometimes, plain absent. Okay for a one-nighter but wouldn't want to stay any longer. We can't speak for the adjoined youth hostel as we stayed in the hotel section.

Well, Austin Powers would have liked it. But no: Austin Powers at least loved colours. I stayed in this "hotel" only twenty minutes - then I ran away in horror. The government owned place is not only very old, run down and turns every happy person into a depressed one, it is also the ONLY hotel in banaue, and that's possibly why it is number one here on tripadvisor. So why did I ran away? Well, I don't like naked concrete wall, dead aninmals on a very dirty carpet (probably last cleaned in the 70s), mold in my bathroom and most importantly: no wifi at at. Everything is grey here, expect for the lobby, where the trashy shop takes more space than anything else. NEVER AGAIN! Check for nice homestays in Banaue, they are clearly the much better option!

Room Tip: There is no nice room. Don't book!

Finally was able to make the trip to Banaue this year. It is a sensational place and probably well worth the long trip both ways in the bus. The hotel overlooks the township so there is a great view from the rooms. The hotel is a bit dated but is still very comfortable and acceptable. I would recommend it to anyone travelling to the rice terraces.
