“very peaceful, agreable and beautiful view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2013

I STAYED THERE FOR 3 NIGHTS. i ENJOED VERY MUCH. gOOD FOOD, GOOD SERVICE. It is a little bit out from the center but for this reason it is very peaceful. The check in is done in a clever way. Families are settled separately, and there are two kinds of rooms : standard and luxe. It is vzry important because even the people are se'ttled in a different way.

My last visit in Banaue was in 1995... The hotel is exactly the same! At least it was maintained! In any other country in the world this would be a 5 star hotel with a spa overlooking the rice terraces. But government tourism promotion being what it is in the Philippines (the hotel is government owned), well it just remains a decent place to stay, actually the only one if you care for some comfort. There are nicer alternatives for the dry season (Ethnic Village) in terms of ambiance and experience (not comfort) but not during the cold months of January - February. Rooms are clean, large enough (around 16 sqm), private bathroom, hot water and nice view. Food Ok but really nothing special. Breakfast buffet more for Filipino taste with the powder fruit juice that in my opinion is unacceptable in a country like the Philippines. Dark and gloomy ambiance... poor decor considering the local availability of nice handicraft and objects and what could be achieved there. Service is what is to be expected from government owned establishment. It relies on the individual drive, competencies and qualities of the staff... Considering the hotel has the monopoly of "comfort" in Banaue, I guess the price of the rooms can be judged as reasonable. Somehow it reminds me of the communist era in Eastern Europe and what they used to call their "luxury" hotels...

There is good parking at this hotel which for me is essential for my clients.

The rooms are big with comfortable beds. The whole hotel is rather run down but remains clean.

For the typical price of P2400 for a standard room, it represents good value.

Delicious food is available although prices are higher than at other Banaue lodging houses.

Not comparable to the hotels in the city or other popular vacation spots, Banaue is still very remote and this is the only hotel in town. Its a government property and is suppose to be a stop-gap arrangement to promote tourism till private business picks it up. However I think it has been this way not less than 30 or 40 years (my first trip here was 1997), and still the only tolerable place in town.

It a big place with lots of rooms so getting a booking should be easy. The maintenance is not that great but liveable. The rooms have verandah and great view of the rice terraces right from the room, so that is priceless. We setup our tripod and camera right from the verandah and had some very interesting shots with shifting clouds over the terraces and hills behind.

Food is ok, not great; service at the restaurant is better than the main hotel (bell boy etc), the front desk people are nice and helpful.

Overall, if you have to visit Banaue, this is still the only option in town and can be enjoyable as long you manage your expectations.

Remember December is also a wet season in this part of the country, not so much typhoon or storms but mostly from the condensing clouds its always wet and only few glimpses of sun in a day.

It's an old hotel but still nice. The aged wood is just awesome. My overall grade is just average but if you're going to banaue, this is the best hotel.

There's no television in the room though, so it's good to bring ipad, ipod, laptop and etc so you won't get bored at night. On day, it has a very scenic view and just walking distance to the town proper. They provide tours to all the tourist spots.

Please make sure to bring cash with you as there's only 1 atm machine in banaue and it's always offline. A credit card with you would also help.

Moreover, i don't know why but I and my friends felt some sort of a ghostly presence in the hotel though.

Room Tip: Bring cash with you as there's no atm.

The room really did have a gorgeous view of the mountains and some smaller terraces. The hotel itself is aging and in poor repair. Paint is peeling, plumbing drips, etc. I think the government owns this place which may explain the neglect. The staff was fairly helpful. The food in the restaurant was good. There aren't a lot of choices in Banaue for actual hotels, so this is fine for a night or two, just don't expect much.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms have a view, but ask anyway, just in case.

I'm only reviewing the poolside BBQ because I didn't stay at the hotel. We stopped there for dinner and had a pretty nice set of meat and veggie dishes that were simple yet tasty. The hotel has a cultural show in the evenings as well, which is nice to watch.
