If you are in Jogja and you don't try Gudeg on Jl Wajilan? Don't miss out on this typically Jogjan jackfruit dish. It comes in different variants with fish, shrimp or chicken or simply vegetarian-Sayuran Saja. The indonesian style ground sitting arrangement make the meal more enjoyable. It's very inexpensive- at max 40k IDR for a sumptuous meal.

“Best - Fresh Gudeg.. Take it for your first experience with gudeg.”
Reviewed February 24, 2012

This is my favorite in Yogyakarta.
The place were comfortable and clean, an open air concept. They are not selling ambience, they sell a very good food with a proper place.I will go there again, and again.Definitely.
If you are facing your first time to enjoy gudeg, just go to Gudeg Sagan. Never wonder, just go.

“Neat tidy, yummy, the perfect spot for introducing Gudeg to your international guest”

You can leave Yogya without eating Gudeg ! and this is THE place to do it

Gudeg is the term used to describe a sweet mild curry made from young jackfruit and palm sugar. Its also the collective term used for the assortment of dishes that it is normally served with.

Gudeg is one of those indonesian dishes well suited to the western palette (hope yours is at list a little bit sweet). Served with a range of options of Chicken, Tempeh, Tofu or egg cooked in a mild coconut milk curry. The dish comes with rice and vegetables. For the more adventurous it is served with a spicy tempeh sambal and for the even more adventurous a unique Indonesian delicacy of the inner layer of cow skin in a mild curry... ya gonna love or hate that one.

As one of the few establishments in town that may almost reach some semblance of western hygiene standards, this really is the best place to take that foreign visitor to experience this quintessential Yogya late night street food! For those with a stronger constitution 3am on jl Solo on your way home from one of Yogya's crazy night clubs is an option worth exploring (clubs like Hugo's Embassy, Liquid Bosche, run to the wee hours on a thursday and friday, offering an endless variety of identical techno and coverbands, for the late night crawl after Sosro closes)

Not the cheapest Gudeg in town, but more than affordable for most travellers, Your basic gudeg with tempeh or tofuh starts at 50cents, whilst the works with chicken breast and tempeh and egg might cost you $2-3
