I travelled to Yogyakarta with my 21 year old daughter and chose to stay at The Phoenix Hotel due to the positive reviews on Tripadvisor. We were not disappointed, we had a wonderful stay here. We stayed here for 4 nights and had a twin room with a balcony overlooking the pool. The decor of the hotel is stunning and our room was very comfortable, clean and quiet at night.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had several meals at the hotel, including breakfast, lunch and dinner and found there was a good choice of meals and the quality was always good.
We booked a car and driver from the hotel to take us on day trips to the surrounding tourist attractions each day, it was probably a bit more expensive to do it this way but was convenient for us. We had a different driver each day and they were all friendly and informative gave us suggestions on places to see.
The location of the hotel is a bit out of the centre of town, but it didn't bother us.
Would like to go back here one day.

My 2 young children and I recently spent 6 days at the Phoenix Hotel. Although not in the very best locations it's not too far from the main part of town (5 - 10min in a becak) and was a great base to head off for day trips to the surrounds. Service was great, very friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was great and the spa services brilliant. Hotel itself was lovely. Only complaint was that the pool closed at 6pm - too early, and we had to change rooms after our first night as we were overlooking a chicken yard where the rooster started at 3.45am! The staff were very helpful with the room change and all was well after that!

Wasn't sure where to stay in Yogyakarta but all the positive reviews on Trip Advisor helped me make my decision and it was a good one. The hotel itself is like an art museum and an old plantation house rolled into one. The staff was excellent friendly and very helpful. The food also was very good. Very good breakfast buffet and the dinners I had at the hotel were also very good. Highly recommended.

Many thanks for all previous reviewers, we ended up selecting this hotel. Initially booked for one night but on checking out front desk told us room still available and to add icing they could upgrade at same rate ! Canceled the other hotel and extended Phoenix for another 3 nights, room with view to the pool from 3rd floor balcony. Location is convenient. Colonial style building, nostalgic deco, some old pictures in lounges. Pool is cosy. Gym is great and quite complete. I won't say breakfast is excellent but it certainly very good already. They make fresh juice on order. Sitting at the balcony having cool beer is enjoyable. Service is excellent, friendly receptionists. LCD TV although signal can be better but very viewable. Another side note if you fancy souvenir check out Endah Souvenir in Pasar, Beringharjo Lt1 PD II, much cheaper than Marioboro rd. or Carrefour. No need to bargain, another local customer we met there told us can't go wrong with their prices.
