We couldn't see the puppet show, but the museum itself is interesting, although there are few explanations jn English. It is located near the Kraton, so you can go there to escape the hot weather. Staff was very very friendly

I enjoyed our visit to this museum. A variety of historical pieces on display and well labelled; almost everything also translated into English which was helpful. Very interesting, especially to see the Sanskrit. Well exhibited, well-lit, neat and welcoming.
Was the only one at the puppet show! I didn't really understand what was going on (even with the English synopsis they handed me) but it was fun to watch. Actually more fun to watch the side with the puppetmaster and musicians than the side with the actual shadow puppet show. If you arrive early, check out the building next to the theater and see how the puppets are made. Great for a cheap evening in Yogya!
and beautiful. Some great batik instruments and fun sculptures in here, and we got a chance to play the Gamelan instruments ourselves once we'd finished the tour. (They're set up in the lobby where you enter, but we waited until the end.)
It was a great collection of Javanese and Indonesian artifacts and history. The minimum entrance fee (I think it was 5,000 Rp), included being accompanied by a guide through the museum. Don't miss the shadow puppet maker workshop just outside the museum entrance!
We came about an hour before their closing time and there wasn't any one to guide us around hence we did a "self-guided" tour of the museum. There were a good number of artifacts but they were lacking of information of their histories, etc. It might be a better visit if there was a guide with us to brief us about the exhibits found in the museum.
