One of the oldest mosques in Yogyakarta. Historically related to the Kraton Palace and Kauman village. Located near the north Alun-Alun square. A three tiered roof structure resembling a pyramid mountain of symbolic significance. The original roof material have been replaced but the interior beautiful joglo architecture remains. Inside the main prayer hall, tall teakwood pillars support the roof; plus the intriguing Maksura and Pulpit. The sultan prays here and the mosque is involved in the yearly Grebeg Maulud celebrations (Prophet's birthday remembrance). Suitable visiting hours outside of congregational prayer times; probably around 9- 1130 am and 1- 3pm.
