Angkringan, just like we all know is a low light, small place to eat a tiny size of rice with gorengan for additional.

Here in pendopo, they bring the exact same concept as angkringan, with an alternative package in awesome keraton ambiance. With a buffet system of service, we are offered variety of traditional foods and drinks. They have very good herbal drinks, very refreshing!

Located in Sultan Palace area, very easy to find.
Building is very similar to Sultan Palace, because it's still part of it, I guess.
We can see inside the building, there are some historical photos, an old bed (i'm sure there's an interesting story behind it, too bad no one came to us to explain about them), and other old things.
It is a buffet style restaurant (is hardly found in Jogja), I think it's a good place to taste a little bit of everything, from starter to dessert. It's all you can eat! Come with empty stomach and grab anything you want. Make sure you try everything..
They regularly do some performance, a traditional dance with traditional music, gamelan.
Really worth to visit.

This was my second visit to the restaurant. The location is almost perfect, less than 1 mile from the center of Jogjakarta sight-seeings. There are Keraton of Jogjakarta Sultanate, Taman Sari Water Castle, Fort Vredeburg, just to name some tourist spots around.

My first visit was unsuccessful, i went go show, and I didn't get a seat because there was a corporate group lunch took the place that time. I tried my luck the next week, and yes I was lucky, but I strongly suggest that you make your reservation first.

The staffs were friendly and also helpful. They greet every guests with Javanese hospitality, and a cold wet face towel really refreshed my day after I took pictures around Jogjakarta (Yes, I'm a photographer). A Javanese dancer also welcomed the guests, she performs twice a day.

The buffet menu is nice. I won't say the choices of menu are special, because taste is relative anyway. But I won't say they're terrible either. Unlike any Indonesian delicacies that usually "strong" and spicy, I think the menu is pretty safe for the taste of Caucasian.

I'd say the restaurant is suitable for the people looking for nostalgic and historical Javanese atmosphere, semi formal meeting, or when you're looking a buffet restaurant with a very affordable price per pax near the center of Jogjakarta sight-seeings.

What I liked the best: The almost perfect location, traditional value of the menu, and value of the money. It's less than $ 7 per pax. You should give it a try. What I liked the least: The Javanese dance was too hip for me, but hey... it's just me. Other people might like it regardless.

At first, it's the location... Then some. I'd say: Give it a try! Have a fun and smart travel, and enjoy the pictures I took at Pendopo Ndalem.

I'm surprised no one has reviewed Pendopo nDalem yet, it's one of my favourite restaurants in town! I was introduced to Pendopo nDalem by a friend of my parents', and I was instantly hooked. The restaurant serves a variety of local street food such as Nasi Kucing (with several different accompaniments), Sate, Mie Jawa, and street snacks such as Gorengan and a variety of Kue's. They also serve several different types of Wedang (traditional herbal tea). The best time to dine at Pendopo nDalem is after 7 pm, when most of the food is out, as they don't serve everything at the same time. And come with an empty stomach!
