“Veggie Paradise for everyone”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2014

We've been to Milas two times on our 4-day visit to Jogja. My daughter (10 y.o.) was at the beginning sceptical of the place as her fall back choice in many restaurants when we are travelling abroad is chicken nuggets. However, she loved the place so much that she was offended when we did not go there on our third night, when we decided to try something new (actually, Kesuma that was also great).

We really liked not only the food but also the laid back atmosphere, with people sleeping on bamboo mats, long-haired girls practicing massage techniques on each other, backpakers playing cards, guest from all over the world having fervent, friendly discussions in many different languages etc. The beautiful garden setting and the library made us stay and enjoy our delicious food for hours.

We've tried many of the dishes. Our favourite was slightly spicy aubergine with tempe, but we also loved grilled tofu with sweet and sour vegetables, Indonesian salad with fresh coconut and homemade pasta from the kids menu (my daugther's favourite was the one with tomatoes: deliciously fresh tomatoes and local parmesan cheese). We also enjoyed desserts very much (chocolate cup was my daughter's favourite and we really liked bintang pisang - grilled banana with ice cream and strawberry sauce). If you are a fan of sweet, thick coffee you really must try Milas kopi with coconut milk - it was incredibly good. Also, their herbal drinks are a must - ask for chilled option.

You could really taste that the food was not enhanced with any artificial ingredients - it's light, not greasy, delicious in a fresh and home-like way that these days you can hardly ever experience when dining out. Also, it's very reasonably priced - for a real feast for 3 people, with coffees, fancy drinks and desserts we paid something like 20-25 USD.

Things to keep in mind is that the are open until 9 pm only (although one night we left at 9.30 and the restaurant was still full but maybe the last order is at 9) and that the toilet is only a squat one which was a little bit discouraging for our daughter at the beginning and younger children might need some assistance when using it (it has no built-in flush etc.).

Overall, fantastic experience to be remembered.

“Awesome Food....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2014

It a perfect setup for Veg. food. The location is far and the entry looks weird but once you settle down the place grows on you , the ambience is old style and rustic and the home grown veggies and herbs makes the food delicious. The freshness in the food they serve is amazing. They are usually packed and run out of food. So best advice is to make reservation, go early and order quickly, we were a gang of 14 and most of the items on the menu were out of bounds as we reached at 9.30 pm. They close early. But a MUST VISIT place if you are in Yogyakarta.

“Lovely Hippies Resto with no warnings written for sharp nails in the bamboo hut”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

We visited the restaurant with 2 young kids (6 year old and 3 year old) for dinner about 7 pm. We love the outdoor setting while we were asked to wait for our seats. The library is a good idea as the kids spent some times to read the books. And we were checking out the organic products they sell in the shop. After about 45 minutes, we've got our table in the hut near the kids playground. We thought, 'Perfect spot' for our active kids while waiting for our orders. We have to take off our shoes or sandals to enter the hut for dinner sitting on the bamboo floor. The area is perfectly clean. Our kids were playing barefoot near the horse swings and my son was running to the wooden plank balance towards the empty little hut. He was screamed and the blood came out from his heel on his right foot. I asked for antiseptic and a plaster to the head waiter which he was nicely willing to look for us. I've told him about the incident, but he thought we were being careless as the area is closed due to some construction. There was no signage or warnings regarding that. The waiters/staffs aware that the kids were playing in the playground earlier on before the incident happened. There were 4 tables with customers only, but the waiters looked busy. There was no effort or courtesy from the staff/manager to even say Apologize to us.

“Closed on Monday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2013

It is a bit hard to find and it took our taxi driver driving a few circles around the block to locate it. We went there on Dec 23, 2013 and it was closed. Perhaps they close on Mondays?

“Best vegie food in the town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 21, 2013 via mobile

I really love this place with nice garden and nice atsmosphere, the food really nice. Rosti is my favorite meal there.
The only thing that they need to improve is the service, because always take a long time until we get the food :)
