I can not say that there is soemthing wrong with the hotel but it is in dire need of room renovation, staff training (albeit they are nice) and food and bev overhaul. There is just nothing special about it. Average experience with everything. Limited menu in the restaurant, staff is ok, but you would expect more, management is not present and if you are not lucky and you get a street view, you will wake up at 5 with the mosque call for prayer. Unless you really need to stay close to the Sultan's palace, I would not recomend it.

Room Tip: Garden view

I love the comfy bed, live piano music at lobby at night, value for money spa services.
Hotel is located at walking distance to Malioboro market.
Great selection of dining options, we love the chinese restaurant "Chin San" located inside the hotel. Breakfast selection was good!

The pool looks smaller than the picture, that's a bit of let down.

Best location, five minutes to the famous Malioboro Street, where you can stroll up and down looking for cheap bargain.

When we checked in we supposed to get a $20 spending money per day but we didn’t get it. After realizing the next day, I went down to ask for it and the same girl, who checked me in looked confuse when I asked. She finally consulted her colleague and gave me half cause they ran out papers. Oh forgot to mention that we booked two rooms and stayed for three nights. Despite the small incident, we still enjoyed our stay.

The pool is huge and great if you are travelling with kids. I like the way they design the outdoor area - it give a sense of tranquility. However, the hotel has started to show its age. You can see here and there things that needed to be fixing. For the price we paid, these small things didn’t bother us at all. We could have stayed at the Hyatt Regency but it was too far from Malioboro and not necessarily better. I like the way they segregate smoking and non-smoking area in the restaurant as one would notice almost every Indonesians smoke.

The room was average but we had a great sleep. You really can escape the morning call prayer; cause the mosque is right across the street. But hey, this is Indonesia and that was part of cultural experience.

My only complaint of this hotel was the price of the ice cream (Haagen-Dazs) was ridiculous. Eight bucks for a small cup, it almost the same as the price of their hamburger. It cost me $16 for my two kids . So you’re craving for ice cream get it from somewhere else.

This hotel is comfortable and the staff are helpful. We splashed out and took a suite on two levels bedroom up and living area down, connected by a spiral staircase. Very stylish. There were two problems. It was Ramadan and our room faced the main road opposite a mosque and therefore we were wakened very early for prayers (regrettably we are not Moslems). Suggest that you always ask for a courtyard facing room. The upside of our room was the outlook - a very good view of Merapi and its twin. Sometimes curtained by swirling clouds but when they lifted what a magnificent view! Food was good with an excellent buffet breakfast.
The second problem with the room - lighting/air con/TV were controlled from a bedside box but clearly there was an issue with this device because the aircon spontaneously turned itself off and the TV turned itself on at random intervals. I found that setting the devices to on or off as we wanted and then unplugging the controller did the trick. Reported this to staff but they were incredulous and nothing happened. These were minor problems. Might mention that the reception staff were great - one person, Mita, went out of her way to be helpful to us with bookings. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Courtyard room preferred

If you have a room facing the inner courtyard, there will be no problem - the windows have almost no sound insulation, so all you will hear is running water from the pool. However, the thin windows facing the main street mean that you will hear motorcycle noise throughout the night, which can very much impact the comfort of your stay.

Otherwise the hotel is quite nice, has a friendly atmosphere and a lot of the creature comforts you might be missing. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and have nice amenities and toiletries. However, we found the bathroom to be quite dirty, especially the sink - an unforgivable sin which could be so easily fixed. The tea/coffee box also had tons of little brown ants running on the sugar.

This didn't upset us, as we enjoyed the trip nonetheless, but it can be a huge mood killer for some tourists.

The hotel has a nice pool in the inner courtyard, which shuts at 8 pm, but you still have a chance to swim in dark from 6 pm - very romantic! Take a few minutes to explore the grounds - there are some nice surprises hiding in the trees, like statues and an old coach in which you can sit.

The food was nice - other than a dinner buffet, we also tried the sit-down Western-style meal, which was of a good quality (except the cream soup, which was a little strange, watery but fat at the same time). DON'T drink the wine - a small glass will be 2-3 times more expensive than your entire dinner, and it's not even that nice. Try beer or mixer drinks instead, which, contrary to expectation, are considerably cheaper.

We enjoyed our stay here, and would consider staying here again on a next trip to Yogya.

Room Tip: If you are a sensitive sleeper, ask for a room facing the inner courtyard, not the street.

We are a family of 2A & 2C and stayed in the executive suite of the club level for two nights.
The hotel has been around for a while, however, all maintenance, service and facilities are in good order.
The spa is awesome and its staff are exceptionally well trained. Our massages were the best we have had in indonesia.
Breakfast, location were great but the best things this hotel offered were Mita , Bangon and Upik the staff at the level.
Thanks to you crew our stay at the melia was very memorable.

Room Tip: If you can afford it go level / club.
