I stayed with my family at the Melia Purosani for three days during our recent trip to Yogyakarta. The hotel has a strategic location at a walking distance to the famous Malioboro street. The rooms are a little bit old but confortable. The restaurants are good and have a good combination of Indonesian and Western food. The swimming pool area is beautiful and the spa is excellent. They have a kids club what is nice with you are travelling with small kids.

Nowadays a lot of hotels claimed they're 5-stars hotel, I really wonder what does it mean?

From a hotel guest perspective I would think it means you're getting superb service and get to enjoy superb facilities. But when the service and facilities are just average and the image you see are old and dated interiors, you will wonder.

But nevertheless, the location was good, near enough to get to Malioboro street where all the shops are, very busy street with lots of shopping to do.

The reason i stayed at this hotel was because I wanted to visit Borobudur and this was a package deal my travel agent had arranged and because it was only 1 night, I think I can deal with this. Otherwise, I think they are other hotels that are more modern or boutique hotels that are more colonial and has more character.

We stayed there under group arrangement for office outing. The location is excellent and only 300 meters from Malioboro street and next to Progo mall. The hotel staff is nice and friendly. The room is spacious but old interior designed. The hotel is overall well maintained and has a nice swimming pool.

Cons:
- My roommate found out that some of toiletries were empty when we arrived at the room.
- Burned-out big spot of dirt just below the room carpet (in room No.360)
- Smelly and spooky bathroom in Amarta ballroom
- Breakfast food with standard taste
- Old and tired rooms, need refurbishment
- No Wifi access in bed room

Pros:
- Strategic location just behind the famous Malioboro street, only 10 minutes walking distance
- Staffs were friendly and helpful
- Nice landscape and spacious room
- All facilities well-functioned

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in ground floor

Even though the hotel is already old but the room is well maintained. The problem is I stayed in the non smoking room but the hotel provided ashtray and matches. The restaurant for having breakfast is good but quite hectic in the morning. Food is good, a balanced between local food and western menu. The room is spacious and neat. Agree that they should provide in room wifi access because it is very troublesome to connect to the wired line.

Room Tip: Request for room facing the city.

The location is near malioboro street,it's strategic location is a plus of this hotel. I didn't try all the hotels facilities since my schedule was tight but the room is good. The deluxe room is spacious, the bathroom is large and clean, nice view of the pool. The service is good, the staffs are friendly and helpfull. The breakfast also good, vary from western to local menu. The only thing I considered as a con is there is no wifi and the internet rate is too expensive. If you here for bussiness you should prepare for internet connectivity alternatives.

We had previously stayed in Bali for 8 days and headed over to Yogyakarta for 5 days to stay at this hotel so we could go and see Borobudur and Prambanan. The flight from Bali was only 1 hour. We stayed at this hotel in Jan 2011 just after Mount Merapi had erupted about Oct 2010 (or about then). My husband didn't want me to write a review he wanted me to keep this hotel a secret as we absolutely loved this hotel and wanted to keep it all to ourselves. The hotel wasn't at full capacity due to Merapi eruption as it has kept tourists away so we had the run of the place as such, maybe thats why we had such a good time. The room we had was beautiful. The breakfast was amazing, specially the coffee. The pool was lovely. Overall we loved Yogyakarta and the people there. We were the only Australians over there well westerners but no one really took any notice of us everyone went about there business which was nice. Would come back here in a heart beat. You must go and see Borobudur and Prambanan and we were lucky enough to to go and see Mount Merapi which was still smoking and in a bad way as the eruption had only happened a few months before we got there. But I honestly couldn't say a bad word about this place it was 1st class all the way.

Room Tip: We had a room over looking the pool, Unsure what floor we were on thou. Room was perfect.
