This homestay is actually a big house converted into a homestay. It only has 5 rooms, each are named with Javanese wayang character. The rooms, sheets and towels are all very clean. The bed is quite comfortable, and they have nice garden.
This place is suitable if you have a big group/family, because you can also rent the whole house. Also if you get bored with staying in a standard hotel room, Omah Lawas will give you a different feel because it's quite homey. The person who maintain the place (Mr. Nanang) is very kind and helpful, too.
However, although the name is "Omah Lawas" (Old House), there's nothing old or rustic about the place. Don't expect to stay in a traditional Javanese house, this place is just like any modern house in Indonesia.
I stayed in Sadewa room for IDR 400,000/night. The cheapest room is IDR 350,000/night, and the difference is only on the TV program, while all other features are the same (AC, bathroom). The cheapest room only has local TV program while the more expensive one said to have satellite TV program, although in reality there's nothing to watch because they don't have any channels like HBO, Cinemax and such. So it's better to rent the cheapest room (Arjuna room).
Breakfast is very basic for the price. You have to choose between gudeg, toast, fried rice or instant noodle (!).
Location wise is very great, it's in the quiet side of Prawirotaman and very close to the main road (Jalan Parangtritis). Overall, a nice choice if you want to stay in a guest house, although it's a bit overpriced.
