“A nice quiet hotel.”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

A beautifully decorated small & cosy hotel, very near Maliboro shopping area, though there is nothing to shout about the shopping arcade if you are from bigger city. Staff are friendly and helpful. It would be best to check out their website before you make any direct booking as they have valued for money promotion on certain months of the year.. E.g. Free one night with every 2 night stay? Well, we overlooked on that :(
Also, if you like to try the traditional massage, get the staff to assist you on that. Ask for Pak Sukra. RP100,000 with tips included per session. Not so much on relaxing but "repairing / corrective" massage :)

With the money I spent for accommodation, it's pretty valuable. I was kinda surprised at first that the hotel was better that I had expected. Pretty clean and comfy. They also provided snacks and mineral water every day which was great. The downside was the breakfast, which was a total letdown, but with that price, I won't complain that much.

growing up in indonesia as a woman i understand sexual harassment is so rampant. that doesn't prevent me from traveling alone. yogyakarta has been disappointing in that department. this is the second time i experienced sexual harassment and what was so sad, it was done by the hotel staff himself. a fat and short staff (whom later i reported to the hotel management) who was off duty was being extra friendly when i was eating at the hotel restaurant (around 9pm). insisted me to accompany me to the train station with his motorbike to get my ticket to surakarta (was planning to visit for work and i knew there are trains every hour from tugu station). finally he insisted to check the hot water in my room although i rejected a few times. being indonesian and trying to accommodate his fake politeness, i figured it's fine, and nothing won't happen since there are other guests and hotel setting is pretty open. i went up the stairs and that man stayed downstairs and peeked through my skirt.
reported to the assistant manager. i was disappointed they didn't return my second night i already paid through booking.com (understandable) and i was dumbfounded when she gave a voucher to stay in the hotel again. although i knew that was all she could do to offer her sincere apology.

men, especially hotel staff, not all single female travelers wants screws.
if you live in the city, you know where to pay for sex.

mawar asri management, you need to scrutinize your staff's background and fire those who harass your guests. otherwise reviews like this will keep popping up and ruin your business.
and better get used to the local girls traveling alone. we live in the 21st century.

I was having a reunion trip with my friends from several cities and we decided to stay at Mawar Asri Hotel. The location is awesome! Basically everything is great except for the breakfast.
Our room is nice but somehow there's an awful smell when we open the door each time. I assume that the smell comes from the bathroom because there's puddle of water on the floor that comes from the broken toilet shower. Since we're only consider the room for sleeping and shower, this has not become a problem to us.
The staffs are excellent! Polite and all smiley! Love them!

Definietly will come back to his hotel and hopefully the breakfast and the rooms are getting better.

Room Tip: If you're going to sleep with 3 occupancy, this hotels provide such rooms! Amazing right!

We stayed 3 night in family room (2 queen beds) that cost us only Rp 360,000 per nite.

Breakfast was simple. Local rice/fried rice + bread with jam/butter.

Room n shower was ok. Got complimentary mineral water and snacks.

5 minutes becak ride to Taman Sari, Kraton, Fort, Alun- alun.

Driver they provided to us, Mr Sularno was good. Took us everywhere we asked without getting lost. Be it in Jogja itself or even to Borobudur and Dieng.

On the other hand for me the only downside about Mawar Asri is they do not have fridge.

The room was ok, clean and comfortable. Breakfast is "so-so ok" with coffee and tea, toast, fried rice or noodles. It is within walking distance to Kraton, but a bit far from Malioboro Street, you may want to have a trishaw or a horse cart ride. The staff are friendly, and the driver for mobil (Indonesia term for car) is very helpful, giving lots of suggestion for places to visit.

Just walking distance to Keraton and alun-alun, and no other hotel I saw near here, so it is a perfect place to feel being in the middle of Jogja society. Becak can be easily reached, go to Marlboro only 10 minutes by becak. Price is worth since its new, clean, service good, and the special thing is they serve complimentary snack and mineral bottle water everyday.
The staff are very friendly, just what we expect from Jogja people.
Do not expect various kinds of breakfast as only Indonesian food and plain bread with jam were served. but it's okay since Jogja offer many choices of cheap local culinary.
You can also request for airport pick up and drop off (additional charge) with their comfy vehicle ,Nissan Livina.
For long stay, they also offer you best price, make sure to book it very soon.
