One of my favourite places to take visitors in yogya, Always lots of cool events, great food and accommodation. A well kept secret. check out there website to know what events they might have on. Wayang performances here are the way they are meant to be, very very real

Tembi is a special place that (among other things) holds regular FREE arts and music festivals. We were fortunate enough one night to experience a music concert during which about a dozen different musical artists and bands treated us to some of the most unique music we have ever heard! Check their comprehensive website for festival dates (they is one virtually every week), and even if it doesn't sound like something that would appeal to you, go anyway, it's a fabulous place, and you will experience something authentically local that you won't get at the more tourist-focused events / attractions.

the village is great, has a feeling staying in the very remote village and in an old colonial atmosphere. but since we can hear the sound from the wood fabrication its not so quiet anymore.
