“Pretty terrible”

Lots of potential here but it was SO DIRTY. The sheets and towels were unusable. Breakfast was abysmal. The staff were nosy and made us feel very uncomfortable. They arranged a tour for us and we got totally ripped off. One day we woke up at 4am to find the staff drinking and being so loud by the rooms. Wouldn't go back

We emailed Kampoeng Djawa and they immediately replied. Making a reservation was a breeze. We've been in Yogya a year before, and we enjoyed Jalan Prawirotaman more than Gang I and Gang II. There are a lot of restaurants along this street.
They offer free coffee all day. They gave us free breakfast too.
The room was pleasant, a bit dim, but we did not mind. Bed was not dusty and the restroom was clean.

Room Tip: Ask them to put you in a room at the end, because you can hear other people chatting outside (your n...

Very nice guest house (Indonesian style and decoration), well located in a pleasant street with restaurants and bars. The staff was very friendly (they welcomed us with some tea and banana pancakes) and they helped us to organize our day trip to Borobudur. The room was enough big and clean (the bathroom also), with a private patio. We really recommend that place!

Enough said, the whole experience was upsetting! The room was just like a train carriage and we didn't get the room we wanted although we have booked it. They also wouldn't allow us to change to another room with the same rate, although the room was empty.

They also charged me higher, although after I insisted they gave me the price they initially agreed. All in all, I'd be crazy if I want to come back!

Room Tip: Don't ever want to stay on the upstairs attic room. Horrible!

We stayed in this small Homestay in January and enjoyed the place. It is not much of a luxury, but everything works. AC, hot water and friendly helpful staff. The breakfast is nothing you need to have but other restaurants are very close and have good offers. We stayed with our two young kids and shared one room which became a bit crowded. Overall I liked the charm of the place. However, they will renovate everything and build a second floor and close for that in February 2014.

We arrived in at the Kampoeng Jawa Hotel and a friendly man showed us our room. The room was nothing like the pictures we have seen on tripadvisor or booking.com
The room was very very smal, there where 2 little single beds. I didn't fit in the bed, not even almost. The fan was also tiny and there was a lot of dust on it. My friend got an astma attack within a few minutes. There was no terras outside our room, wich we had requested making the booking. The badroom was outside of our room.
Reading other revieuws, I think we had the worst room they have. It was more like a closet than a room. Switching rooms was not possible. We paid for the first night and cancelled. The next day we've got an email from booking.com that we didn't show and that we would we charged for this. Went back to the hotel again, got a bill (after a long time waiting, staff had to contact the manager). After sending this to booking.com it was arranged. A lot of hassle, not a nice experience.
The hotel is situated very nice though

We had pre-booked 2 nights through Hostel World (with deposit, almost two weeks in advance) and confirmed with Gita 6 days before arriving, but upon reaching Djawa we waited in the hallway for 30 minutes before a taxi arrived to take us to the "new, modern guesthouse" which the front desk staff told us was also Kampoeng Djawa. He said the guesthouse was full, yet no one ever informed us that we would not be able to stay at KD, despite email interactions beforehand. We were shuffled into the taxi and dropped off at Hotel Renggannis, a character-less, middle-of-the-road hotel about 1 km away near Jl. Tirtodipuran. Hotel staff at Renggannis were pleasant, but not particularly competent.

A business which doesn't honor confirmed, paid bookings is not a business that should survive.
