“Good value for money”
Reviewed April 30, 2011

Let me start by saying "you get what you pay for", so understand that for the price the rooms and facilities will be spartan. That said, this is a great base for exploring yogyakarta. Location is close to the heart of Malioboro, but at the same time the hotel itself is located along a quiet alley.

The staff are courteous and very helpful. The atmosphere makes one feel like they are in a quiet home (rather than a hotel)

The hotel is located down a small alley, and is quiet and seems relatively safe. The staff are helpful, although they really want to sell tours to you. The rooms, however, are spartan to the point that they are uncomfortable: my wife and I ended up quite cold due to the lack of any bed covering beyond a thin sheet too small for the bed. Likewise, the room needed much more light.

Still, the price is good if you need a base from which to explore Jakarta for a short time.

We were told in advance via email that our room's sink was undergoing some fixture therefore we were being arranged to stay in another nearby hotel (difference in cost was absorbed by 1001 malam hotel) with no additional cost incurred.

The next day, we took up a 10hours car rental with driver and was satisfied to be driven to our preferred place of interests. When we finally checked in to 1001 malam hotel on day 2, we are pleased with the room except some ants were found (think perhaps our room is located near to the tea area) and the bed is excellent except the noise of the springs whenever one tosses or turns. Other than that, the hotel location was brillant as it's a 5 min short distance walk to Marioboro street and near the yogyakarta train station as well.

On top of that, Mamad played a great owner where everything is negotiable and treated us lunch (nasi goreng) taking in view that we were lacked of IDR on our departure day. Tom Lim was wonderful as well to greet us as and when he saw us and drove us to the airport as early as 5:30am.

In an overall, its a hotel recommended and will reside there again when we re-visit yogyakarta.

This hotel is really good location. It's not far from the airport and close to shopping center. While I stayed there I felt that I was staying at home because all staffs were very nice and they took care of me as a part of their family. If I have a chance I would stay there again and again.

Room Tip: helpful staffs

i booked via asiarooms n it showed that it went through but i got a call from pak maman that its overbooked n he was kind enough to offer alternatives

the day i got my room, i stayed for 4 nites, on level 2 n i could even request what wall decor i prefer! haha...

best of all, the staff remembered me n my name cos its my 2nd time here, impressive!!!!

unfortunately i fell ill the next day till the day i left n i feel that there could be more empathy frm staff when i told them im down w a very bad fever n needed water for my medicine. i was staying alone n was pretty miserable during this trip. room service wont clean unless i tell front desk to get my room cleaned n change towels. my toilet also had a lingering sewage stench every evening.

well too bad i fell ill else i would be able to enjoy the stay. ive never stayed in a hotel room so much till this trip.

but will definitely stay here again cos i jus love the simple rooms.

The building and the rooms are nicely-designed, and its manager and the staff members are really nice and helpful. One of them even helped me to find a cheep hostel nearby when the rooms there were fully booked. Above all, the location is the best. It is in 5-minute walk from the main street of Yogyakarta, Malioboro, from which you have easy bus access to Prembanan. To go to Borobudour, the hotel has a short trip plan for a reasonable price.

Room Tip: Better to book your room in advance

It's a simple place, no luxury. There are various types of room, must check which one you book, some without tv, no air-cond, no fridge, etc. I didn't check carefully, no fridge is quite a prob for me. But for a 1-night stopover, no complaints. Place is quiet, nice, we had 3 rooms together, we could sit outside the room to chit-chat, have a drink, etc... near Malioboro, but we didn't like the market and the shops, the malls are much better. Beringharjo is alright, but you see one stall, you've seen all. This hotel is located along a small lane, be ready to haul your luggage all the way, like 2 mins? depending on which end you take. No nice restaurants around. It rained at night, we borrowed some umbrellas to get a taxi at the main road, by the time we got into the taxi, we were cold and wet. My family travelled with kids. For couples, budget travellers, ppl who don't mind walking, who do not need a big garden, pool, cab, cable tv, bath tub, etc, this place is quite a good choice. For the price, it is a good place. The kids and us had more fun at the city centre, good food, shopping and hotel.
