It's a simple place, no luxury. There are various types of room, must check which one you book, some without tv, no air-cond, no fridge, etc. I didn't check carefully, no fridge is quite a prob for me. But for a 1-night stopover, no complaints. Place is quiet, nice, we had 3 rooms together, we could sit outside the room to chit-chat, have a drink, etc... near Malioboro, but we didn't like the market and the shops, the malls are much better. Beringharjo is alright, but you see one stall, you've seen all. This hotel is located along a small lane, be ready to haul your luggage all the way, like 2 mins? depending on which end you take. No nice restaurants around. It rained at night, we borrowed some umbrellas to get a taxi at the main road, by the time we got into the taxi, we were cold and wet. My family travelled with kids. For couples, budget travellers, ppl who don't mind walking, who do not need a big garden, pool, cab, cable tv, bath tub, etc, this place is quite a good choice. For the price, it is a good place. The kids and us had more fun at the city centre, good food, shopping and hotel.

Booked 3 rooms & stayed 3 nites after reading good reviews on both agoda.com and tripadvisor!
love the homely setup with a tinge of Javanese architecture..and the staff were great! always helpful and smiling..Mr Mamad, Pak Tom & all.
we had pre-booked a car & driver from the hotel as well for our whole trip..airport transfers & all tours covering Borobudur, Prambanan, Affandi Museum, some art galleries, Amanjiwo, Malioboro etc..
Miss Yosha, who speaks very good english, was great as our driver & tour guide bringing us to some wonderful places & lovely restaurants..we especially love the Masli vegetarian restr.
Thanks guys!
for the price we pay, Hotel 1001 Malam was great value, we shall return!

The hotel caught my attention in the beginning not only due to the many positive comments received by it, also because of its unique name "Hotel 1001 Malam" (in English, "1001 Nights Hotel").
However, we arrived at a rainy night only to discover that we had to walk through an alley to reach the hotel's doorstep. It wasn't a walk too long but it was neither a pleasant experience. Our shoes and luggage bags were drenched. Towels provided in the room smelt the lack of sunlight after wash. And a blanket was too thin for us to share in rainy nights. Breakfast was nothing like what we've had before in Bali hotels of the same rate. It was a bit of a letdown.
Otherwise, the hotel is quite okay. It is located at the street of Malioboro, If you prefer to do local shopping, it is the best place. And it is only within minutes of walk from train station. Staffs are very honest and friendly.

Our flight arrived at 8:30am Indonesia time. By the time we checked out from airport it's almost 9:30am. We got a taxi and go straight to Hotel 1001 Malam (arrived around 10am). I'm surprise that they actually allow us to checked in to one room for refreshing and managed to get all of us checked in within one hour. Coffee and tea are free flow. The owner, Mr. Tom, is very friendly and helpful. We almost didn't want to leave our room after settle down :)
The rooms are clean, with creative murals and batik bed-sheet. The hotel is VERY green. And the corner that I love the most is the little balcony with umbrella-ed tables for guests to hang out.
This hotel is at Gang II (Gang = alley in Indonesian) of Sosrowijayan Street, just 5 minutes away from the busy Malioboro Street. It is easily access to any other tourism attraction, and yet it is quiet enough for peaceful rest :)

We stayed for 4 nights at 1001 malam, really friendly and welcoming, rooms basic but nicely decorated. Helpful staff, and nice atmosphere, great haven away from all the hustle and bustle down the main street. Thanks to all the staff for making it a great stay for us!
