“Best shopping in Yogyakarta for tourists and others”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

April 2014 at the end of our stay in Yogyakarta we went to Mirota Batik at Jl. A. Yani No. 9.
Jl. A. Yani is an extension of Jl. Dagen at the opposite end to the railway line. So if leaving Malioboro Mall, which is a pretty good shopping centre especially if you want clothing and non souvenir items, you need to turn left onto Jl. Dagen and its a fair way up on the right hand side of the road. Its so far that we thought we had missed finding it completely. It is not far past the Beringharjo Traditional market, its practically opposite Jl. Pabringan and just short of Jl. Reksobayan and Gedung Agung.
This is the place to shop for sure, make it your first stop instead of your last and you will get some great bargains otherwise you will be kicking yourself later. They have 3 floors full of bargains just waiting for you to discover them. The prices here are the same for locals and tourists alike. They have practically everything from batik clothing, jewellery, puppets, kites, all souvenirs, large statues, ash trays, bags, fans, umbrellas, hats, ornaments, and much more. I will almost guarantee you won't walk of there empty handed. I couldn't resist some puppet dolls in traditional dress complete with a stand which l saw at one place earlier for 210,000rp but l paid 60,000rp each at Mirota Batik. On purchase they went off and got their original boxes all in excellent condition to place them in for travel. Other breakable items were wrapped well in brown paper then put in a bag. Must say l was disappointed that l could not get the attention of the only staff member behind the jewellery counter so after a long wait l left without any service there. As with everywhere else in Indonesia I noted, Mirota also function poorly in the register areas where they are over staffed on the floors and not many checkouts available to pay for items so patrons must wait a long time to pay for their items. If they had a shorter lineup at the checkouts l could have spent more time looking around to buy more but l only had a couple of hours spare - l could easily have spent at least half a day if not longer there looking around at everything. Also there are no trolleys to carry ones purchases in while looking around and not enough width in the aisles for them anyway, its difficult for 2 people with their arms full to pass each other. Nonetheless if l ever go back to Jogja l will take a large bag and visit this store again. Highly recommended!!!! Oh and although the streets were extremely busy with traffic, we had no problem waving down a taxi at the front door when leaving.

“One Stop Centre”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

If you are coming from tugu station along malioboro walk straight and it is about 200 meters. it is infront of Beringharjo market. The sign board is a bit worn out but you can still see Mirota batik. it is No. 9 Jl Jend A Yani. Infront of the shop you will traders. it is fully aconditioned. the staff are dressed in traditional Javanees, and are very helpful. It has 3 floors. It is like a small department store. The whole place smells of fragrance of flowers and incense in every corner

the prices are fixed and you can't get any discount. the prices are reasonable so you dont need to haggle. You can find alot of souvenirs or handicrafts. there is so much for you to choose from. You just take your time and walk slowly looking for items that fancy you. If you dont like bargaining then this place is for you.

You have batik, aromatherapy, traditional food, traditional crafts, home decoration, sculpture, even ancient bikes.

On the 3rd floor there are cafes which you can relax and have a drink after walking around. You even have clean restrooms for free.

“One stop shopping for souvenirs”
Reviewed January 13, 2014 via mobile

Been here most of the time I went to Jogya. You can find everything here, from high quality batik to just ordinary cheap printing batik, from shirt to complete and official cloth, toys, local souvenirs, Javanese herbal medicines, table cloth, bed sheet , etc. the price is trustable, as you pay what you get. For the high quality product, for sure the price is high but as this fix price not need to worry for over paying. As locals i did compare the price and agreed that their prices are represent the quality of the goods you choose. There is an air con inside but mostly this place is very crowded. However, if you just need one or two specific goods, just tell the staff, they will help you to find the things you looking for. Mirota really helps for last minute shopping , especially for souvenirs with proper price. Suggestion is to go in the morning after the store is open to avoid too crowded. The location is in the central Jogya, easy to find as just at the end of Malioboro street - in front of Jogya local market called Pasar Beringharjo - where you can find many less price stuff but need to use your bargain skills. Whilst, the price on Mirota are fixed price, means you can safe your energy for bargaining as well your money. Enjoy shopping of our lovely Batik. The best one are hand writing batik..

“Great place to buy batik”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

This place is like an enormous department store for any type of batik product you could want. They have clothes, pillow cases, curtains, bolts of fabric, etc. I chose to shop here because the prices are clearly marked and there were lots of locals shopping here too.
