“Best 'free' breakfast ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2010

The location of the Ministry of Coffee is excellent. In the heart of the Jl Prawirotaman area of Yogya on the same road as some really good budget restaurants. It is just about within walking distance of Jl Malioboro - if it's not too hot to walk around! Quiet setting, above the large coffee shop, with refreshing features like a fountain and small balconies for the rooms. Around the corner there are loads of laundrettes and food stalls and an Indomarket 2 minutes walk away.

The room was overall a bit small, but it was well decorated and the ensuite bathroom was big enough. For a few days this place is big enough. Coffee and tea making facilities, A/C, free wifi and TV all in the room too. The balcony is a real treat.

We chose this place from the Lonely Planet and found their description of the food to be totally wrong! They must have polished up their cake & dessert making skills as the chocolate mousse was amazing and so unexpected in this part of the world! The breakfast choices were great and big portions too. I had cereals (albeit with odd milk!) for the first time in SE Asia here! My partner had the banana pancakes twice and both times couldn't finish them - to his disappointment!

The staff were quiet, attentive and very polite.

As well as being a cool place to stay, the downstairs coffee shop is a great quiet place to chill out away from the hustle and bustle of the centre of Yogya. I would definately stay here again.

This is a nice place... actually that would be perfect with a swimming pool... and the price would be normal... as the rooms are spotless, the lobby is nice, breakfast really good, and yes, there is really good coffee!

Stayed here last year on a trip from Singapore.
Lovely little hotel, nice layout. Rooms were very clean and well presented.
Staff very friendly.
Opposite is a place to drink civet coffee (Kopi Luwak), definitely worth it for a fiver.

We liked the MoC: the staff is extremely helpfull and they give the place a pleasant atmosphere, the room was nice and clean, you can have a good drink or a lunch in the coffeeshop when it is raining, or just hang around. They offer free WiFi for the guests. The location is good as well: close to restaurants and in particular to ViaVia (they organise great tours, a cooking class, and very good food). MoC offers a breakfast box when you need to leave before 8 am, breakfast is tasty but not really much. And another side note: as the mosques start their call for prayer at about 4 o'clock in the morning: bring earplugs!

We stayed in a deluxe room at Ministry of Coffee in August. Its a wonderful little hotel, not many rooms, and a very interesting layout/architecture. It is also a coffee shop (as the name suggests!) and they have a library upstairs. The staff are fantastic, extremely switched on and friendly and helpful. If you have to leave early in the morning before breakfast starts, they will even give you a take away breakfast including coffee!! the food and drinks/coffee are excellent. We had a room on the ground floor with a balcony with a fish pond outside - there is a bit of street noise but at night the traffic really dies down so we were not disturbed by it.

Ministry of Coffee is located in Prawirotaman, where there are many other similar accommodations. The room was nice and clean, and the breakfast was excellent. They also packed breakfast whenever I left for trips in the early morning.

The bathroom was a little crummy, but all in all, it was a nice place.
