We stayed at the Ministry of Coffee for five nights while touring Jogya. While the rooms are somewhat small and dated, they are very clean, and staff extremely attentive.

The room size really wasn't an issue as we spent most of our time in the Common area on the main floor. The breakfast was quite adequate and we looked forward to our lattes each morning and afternoon.

The guesthouse is also conveniently located on a quiet street with a good selection of restaurants (100m from Via Via)

We stayed 2 nights in MoC (standard room). The rooms are really tiny and hot - the aircon is not working efficiently. The decoration is quite poor and above all things, beds are not comfortable and the hotel is very noisy.
But the breakfast is very good, they serve excellent coffee and pancakes, and the price is correct. So I would say it is a good compromise. Another thing is that it is quite far from downtown, but many becaks are waiting for you.

Rooms are lovely, after the bustle of the Jakarta motels, Min of Coffee was a refreshing, clean and just nice change! Our room had a little balcony which faced the inside. It was great for taking the night / morning air, and a good for a read. Shampoo and soap was provided, toilets were clean. Our rooms were carefully cleaned every morning. We stayed there 5 nights and had no complaints whatsoever. The rooms are not huge, but it had all the usual facilities: hot water kettle, safe, slippers, tv (on a wall), soap, shampoo, closet, bed-side tables etc.

Service-wise I would also give 5 stars to this establishment. Staff are friendly and greet you once you come in the door. Every night they offer you a breakfast menu (in English) with different Sets, and you can choose what you want the next morning. This is great cos it minimizes any language barrier there tends to be. One night we told them we had a tour package that left at 5am for Borobudur and would not be able to take the usual breakfast in the morning that starts at 7am. Without hesitation they whipped out another 'take-away breakfast' menu with different Sets again! We thought that was awesome. The management has obviously thought ahead and made the effort to cover all their guests' possible needs.

Apart from the rooms the grounds are also quite thoughtfully laid out and well-kept, there is a small garden like area at the side which is a great place to have your breakfast. A library on the second floor as well. This is fairly decent (not a token library!), with a good number of children's books and many many fiction / non-fiction stuff.

Overall I would definitely definitely stay here again.

Price was reasonable, staff had all our needs covered. They were super polite. (The breakfast tea is very very good btw, do try it!). Breakfast is good and you won't go hungry.

Location is fair too. It cost us about Rp 20,000 from the train station to the hotel by becak. They can take two people and huge backpacks. There are becak drivers sitting outside and around the street so you can always hop into a becak within a few minutes.

P.S. IF you want a change from the usual hotel food along that street, turn right from the front door of the hotel, and turn right again at the main street. Along the way you'll see a mosque, there is a decent eatery next to it. Food is decent and clean, all local fare and local prices. Just a suggestion if you want something to eat and don't want to go to all the usual touristy place which surround the hotel.

It is a small cozy place... good place to kill time in hot slow Yogya.
Service is slow (but again it is cultural). Wish that they were a bit more warm tho.
Price is certainly over price to me for coffe and others in the menu.
I stick with Via Via Cafee not far from this place.

We stayed here while we visited Jokja and really enjoyed it. I think we were here for about 3 nights total and its in a great location. There provide a great breakfast every morning, free wifi, there's a tv in each room (nothing in english though) and there is a nice spa across the street. The nicest thing was our flight left really early in the morning and typically breakfast starts much later BUT they woke up early and had a take away breakfast ready for us with hot coffee. It was like 5:30 AM! The hospitality they showed was better than anywhere else and I HIGHLY recommend them!

Very nice and cosy atmosphere. We usually would have a meal at viavia and then head to Ministry of Coffee for one of their delicious coffee or shake, along with a sweet dessert. It was a very welcoming atmosphere, encouraging us to stay for sometimes 2 hours reading and enjoying it !
