So I wanted a nice French food for an (early) Valentine's dinner. Hubby hates french food with all the trimmings.. posh, pretentious, steel-y feel you get from a fine dining establishment. Well, that is not the case with BokaBuka. The minute we arrived at the restaurant, we knew it was going to be a good dining experience. The building is so petite and yet so charming.. very inviting. It was very quiet too, you can vaguely hear 1950s jazz in the background (how romantic is that??!!)
Escargot as the appetizer comes recommended.. for the main course I ordered pigeon with white wine sauce, and hubby ordered a rare fillet mignon. Good portion, well presented and most importantly, very tasty. The house red wine was good.. complimentary ginger+lime drinks were refreshing. The dessert of warm apple crumble topped with vanila ice cream had a fresh-from-the-oven taste this is highly recommended!
The bill came about 200K per person which for the food quality, attentive service and superb dining experience worthed every rupiah!! I am writing this review as I really am hoping for the best for this establishment. Restaurants in Jakarta tend to come and go with the trend and I would hate to see this local gem go away.
Ps: they have 2 small restaurants on Jalan Cipete Raya, located opposite to each other. Choose the smaller one (on the left hand side if coming from jalan Fatmawati) which has an outdoor seating in the backyard, with a small waterfall. More romantic and quiet.
