“A Taste of an Authentic Javanese Home Cooked Meal”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

There's nothing better than a home cooked meal. Do you notice how people always say that their mom/grandma make the best version of a particular dish? Well... the food served in this restaurant is the same like the one that you can find at local homes, cooked by someone's mom. This place is known for their spicy dishes but they also serves non-spicy dishes for those of you who can't stand the heat. But let me tell you, if you're opted the non-spicy food, you're missing something really really good! The Devil's sambal is a must-ordered for me whenever I was there. Also their tempe mendoan (a deep fried sor bean cake covered in tasty batter). the other dishes are as good as the next ones.
Not only the food is excellent, the ambiance of the restaurant is also inccredible. Dominated by vintage javanese artifact and decor, Mbah Jingkrak exudes a warm inviting yet unique atmosphere.

It is best to come here at night as the lights makes the decor look better and also because they have live javanese traditional music to accompany your meal.

“Tasty and Spicy: Worth to Try.”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

I really appreciated the efforts of the restaurant to maintain the original taste of Javanese cuisine, and mostof the food are delicious. Some are very spicy, almost untolerable for western tongue though. But they provided less-spicy choice like simple roasted chicken, or fried mendoan (tempe). Basically, every menu without "setan" word in it is quite safe. The price is reasonable and the decor is unique and quite quirky.

“Favorite lunch time dig”
Reviewed February 18, 2013 via mobile

Do you think you need espresso to wake yourself up after lunch? Try going to mbah jingkrak and you will find yourself energised and dancing on the spot (translation of jingkrak) by the apicy dishes of this restaurant. My favorite is the rawon, which is not too spicy.. If the dish is hot however, the athmosphere will cool you down from the hot bustle of jakarta. Theres a pool in the middle of the courtyard and the interior is filled with eclectic knick knacks from central java
