I stayed in a Superior room with my spouse for 3 nights recently ( from 10.11.12). The Hotel is old but the occupancy rate is high. Patrons are mainly Indonesian transit travelers who drive their MPVs.
Room : The room is adequately big with wooden furniture. Toilet is newly renovated and clean. The double tap provide cold/hot shower .The bed linen looked off whitish but they are changed daily to make you very comfortable.
Service : The receptionists/doorman and other staff are polite and forthcoming when you ask for directions. They will always remind you to take the taxi.and be mindful of your safety. One example : the maintenance guy came and immediately serviced the aircon blower soon after I reported. You will certainly feel at home here.
Breakfast : The breakfast is savouring Indonesian food, with fried rice and keropok, and they change it daily. Menu on Sun : chicken in soy sauce gravy. Menu on Mon : chicken in chili padi gravy, potatoes with chicken liver. Menu on Tues : chicken rendang ,Soto Ayam and helpful of begedil (potato cutlets). You can also take bread, cereals and spreads including honey, srambled eggs and potatoes for others. I love the sliced mangoes or papayas which they serve for desserts.
Location : It is strategically located in the middle of Jln Wahid Hashim – with several other hotels and UOB Bank all in a row. It is very near to Monas, Istiqlal Mosque, Gambir Train Station (to Bandung ) and GononOdia Kommuter Station (to Bogor only R9,000). Gedung Sarinah ( emporium for batik products at upper levels ) and Sabang are within 10 mins walking distance.
Food Outlets : The food court at basement of Sarinah closes at 9 pm. You have many choices from KFC and others. I chosed a restaurant selling bakmie – like Mee Hongkong ( Spore style – and a good portion for R35,000). At Sabang, many stalls sell satay, friend rice/mee. Here, I patronized a bakmie stall run by Hj Arianto and ate his kwayteow bakso pangsit for 3 nights ( dinner at R14,000 ). Kwayteow - very supple and served with chai sim, bakso beef balls, shredded chicken bits and soft siew mai in a soup, and garnish it with chop onion shoots, chilis and dark soy sauce. A Halal steakhouse and Halal Chinese Muslim restaurant are located along Wahid Hashim - across the hotel.
Convenience Store : There are two nearby, two at Sabang and a big supermart at Sarinah. .
Transport : If you want to go to Bandung take the train at Gambir station nearby. Taxi will charge you R3,000 for entry into the station. Train to Bogor and other domestic areas must be taken at Gonon Odia Station neaby Gambir Station. Be prudent keep small change handy. Bargain as each journey may not be the same. Give the taxi or Bajai drivers the exact amount which they ask for as they have the habit of not returning you the change.
Tips For Muslim Travellers : The room is marked with the direction of the “Kiblat”. The toilet is just renovated with news toilet bowls, bright tiles and good lighting. The twin pipes are located high enough and convenient for taking the “wuduk” (Ablution ). Breakfast is Indonesian food and it is halal. The housekeeper will provide prayer mats upon request. Most of the “karyawan” ( staff ) we encountered are Muslims.
