I stayed in a Grand Room, their "standard" accommodation. Nothing standard about the room size, easily double the size of a room in North America. With the walk-in closet, huge bathroom and seating area this felt more like a junior suite. Furniture and carpet were a bit tired for a Ritz property, and I was surprised that wet caulking coated part of the shower handle. But ultimately these were forgivable given the freedom afforded by a very big hotel room. Also good selection of tv and movie channels.

My dining experiences were another matter. Lobo, the showcase Italian restaurant was fully booked when I called at 4pm Thursday for a same day, 1-person 8:30pm reservation. A notice could have been posted given a couple restaurant attendants and a menu board are parked at the lobby entrance. As with virtually all staff I encountered the friendliness was high, English language skills were limited to none and the amount of service information was basic. "Lobo is fully booked" was the extent the reservation clerk's telephone response. Absent were questions about my food preference and a suitable plan B inside or outside the hotel. Given the location of this Ritz Carlton property I was left to dine at Asia, a cafeteria-style restaurant. Keen to try a proper nasi goreng on my first trip to Jakarta that's what I ordered. The chicken looked old, the rice was hard. Asia performed better in the morning as a buffet breakfast venue. However curious that this meal service was not extended on the weekend as at their Club Lounge which served full American breakfast until 10:30am- Asia cleared out breakfast promptly at 10:00am.

Must mention my gratitude and comfort at the high level of security measures at this hotel. Unlike other posters I was appreciative, priority must be to keep the hotel's staff, suppliers and guests safe.

Jakarta is a city rich in history and culture and I will be back to learn more about it. However I'll try the Ritz Carlton Pacific Place or other newer properties to compare with this experience.

Room Tip: My Grand aka standard room was more than sufficient from a size and amenities perspective, but notic...

Overall experience was good but perhaps not of the level one would expect from ritz Carlton. Food was average. Staff at front desk and concierge were not that great.

If you manage to obtain a corporate rate for this hotel, its one of the most reasonably priced hotels in Jakarta. I would feel very safe since their security at the hotel is very tight and that's something i value a lot if I'm in Indonesia. The service is very warm and friendly and I would come again to this hotel again.

Stayed here after a night at the Intercontinental and found it to be nicer in most respects. The two main differences were that staff were more attentive and the rooms were larger. I didn't have anything terrible to say about the Intercontinental but all things being equal, Ritz Carlton was simply better bang for the buck. You know, little things like being able to press the off button or the mute button on the remote control and it actually works without aiming at different spots of the TV and pressing ten times.

When I checked in, I was met at the door, escorted to the front desk and given a (very nice) iced tea. The room was really nice and big - I mean, bigger than you need really. But there is something more human about having room to breathe and spread out mentally. There are loads of English language tv stations on cable, which was nice too.

Breakfast offered a good choice of western and local cuisine and the service was brilliant, right across the board. There is also a decent cafe, which has the world's largest muffins.

Personally, I would throw loyalty programs out the window and base the hotel selection on where you need to go, since traffic is pretty awful. It took a good 25 minutes to go 2 miles and that was not in peak hour. But, certainly, if you were thinking of staying at this hotel, it is a very nice one and I am sure you will not be disappointed.

The hotel is wonderful and club level excellent. Personal attention. Good food presentations with good variety. Self service for soft drinks. Rooms are large and well appointed. Great breakfast buffet in main dining room.

For tourist the location is an issue. This is because the traffic is so horrible. It took 2 1/2 hours to get from airport to the hotel (without traffic it should be 1/2 hour). We had a private tour to take us to the old town and marina area. It took 2 hours in heavy traffic to go a distance which should be 20-30 minutes in normal heavy traffic. We were told to not leave hotel earlier than 10:30 or 11Am and return by 2:30Pm to avoid such traffic delays. This means that you are limited to the area of the hotel for most of your stay. The area of the hotel does not have any shopping (except a local, inexpensive center) and has few restaurant choices and no entertainment choices. The new Kempenski hotel attached to the Grand Indonesia center ( a huge new center) is a better choice for central location that will allow you choices in immediate area when traffic is horrible.

I stayed at the Ritz two nights as I was in Jakarta for business. The hotel was recommended by my business partners who arranged the reservations so I paid a discounted rate. This was the first time I'd stayed in a Ritz Carlton property and it was accurate to what I imagined. The lobby is grand and formal, the staff is helpful and formal, the bellboy is friendly and formal. The property is gorgeous but the atmosphere isn't very warm because of all of the marble (marble?) everywhere.

My room was outstanding - it was enormous and the closet adjoined to the bathroom, which adjoined to the largest hotel bedroom I've ever stayed. The shower and bathtub were huge with a big window overlooking part of the city. The bed was again enormous and comfortable. I ordered room service for dinner and breakfast and both were good. The hotel is not close to shopping districts (I believe the other Ritz Carlton property is in a more bustling area) so there isn't much to do in the evening.

It's a nice place to hole up if you need to work but given the proximity to restaurants and shopping, it's a bit far off. It was perfect for me since my meetings were in a building that was in the same circle. I was impressed with the Ritz service for this location and would happily stay again when visiting these particular clients.
