OK, the hotel is dated a little but the rooms are big, clean and mostly work well. The staff speak English (sort of) and if you need to be in this part of town, this is probably one of the best to be in. For under $100 rack (actually my corporate rate was much better), I was in a huge king suite including breakfast. The chinese restaurant and the Indian restaurant are great - the rest are a little dodgy. Beds are comfy and nice views from higher floors.

Room Tip: Go the suite!

We stayed a night at this hotel. Not bad, as far as accommodation goes, but you need to make sure that you actually check the room if you ask for a non-smoking one, as we had to see several rooms before settling for one which didn't have the overpowering smell of cigarette smoke.
Service was okay but not excellent (some staff were great, while others didn't really care to do anything but stand around which is a shame, really). Price was cheap ... about $75++ on their list, totalling a little over $100 for a night in their regular room. Not bad for Jakarta.
Location is a bit out of the way, but easy enough to get to if your main destination is somewhere in the North, unless you have the bad luck to be caught in horrific traffic.
They could do with a bit of improvement in the restaurant, though. The breakfast buffet looks good and may appeal to the local palate, but could be an unpleasant surprise to a foreigner. Proceed with caution when ordering an omelette. You could end up having to spend half a day finding ways to get rid of the sting of pepper sticking to the roof of your mouth.
Be prepared to pour your own coffee, too, and if you need a large cup because you have large "bule" hands,(they only use ridiculously tiny espresso cups for the breakfast buffet), they will refuse to give you one and inform you that large cups are only for a la carte meals! (no offer of a menu in exchange for the cup!) Tsk! tsk! Some of the hotel staff obviously need to attend more training in hospitality and excellence in guest service...

Room Tip: Make sure to check the room out if you want a non-smoking room or you may be in for an unpleasant su...

The Sunlake hotel at Sunter in North East Jakarta is a grand hotel in the old style but probably built only in the 1970s. Everything about this place is large from the carpark to the toilets. It looks dated now but like a favourite aunty, it can't be killed off.
The rooms are all huge with good views, large bathrooms and excellent wired internet. I agree with other contributors who have mentioned the drain smell. It is there in some of the rooms in the main block but only if you put your nose down the plughole.
Everything you need is included and if you need more, the very professional staff are always on hand to help. I have stayed here on 10 occasions for about 30 nights. I have the choice of staying anywhere in Jakarta but always choose to 'go back home to Sunlake.' It is not modern for the sake of it or fashionable in any way. It is just a good old fashioned hotel offering great service. The coffee shop does a reasonable breakfast however there are also extremely good Chinese and Korean restaurants in the hotel. The bar is cozy.
The bell boys are efficient and there is a Bluebird taxi station outside. The delights of Kelapa Gading are only a 12000 rupiah taxi ride away. (5 minutes).
For water ski and wakeboard fans, Jakarta's premier water ski site is across the road immediately in front of the hotel in Lake Sunter. The lake itself is rimmed with fish restaurants, of all standards.
This place is big, the staff are great and it is good value.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the lake have nicer sunset views.

I would recommend this hotel for pleasure as well as business.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great.Although the front side rooms have a great view of the lake

Stayed a few times in this hotel for business purposes, and most of the time it didn't disappoint badly. Rooms are huge, the only dislike I have is that the rooms are quite dark. As for the toilet, there is always a sewer smell to it and it can get quite unpleasant at times. Wifi is provided within the hotel and room itself, but you will have to take a coupon daily from the reception to get the password. Wifi access in the lobby used to be much easier, without the need for a password but they changed it recently and now you have to register your room number with the reception in order to get the password for the lobby wifi. Breakfast wise is more or less the same every morning, not too bad but not overly fantastic too. There are security posts outside the hotel, so vehicles entering the hotel are checked. Guests' belongings are also scanned upon entry into the hotel.

It is an older hotel in a rather out-of-the way location in North Jakarta. The rooms are large and clean and the beds are comfortable enough. The carpets and drapes have seen better days. The water in the bathroom sink had a rusty tinge to it and it had a faint sewer smell to it. There is wi-fi but you have to get a daily password from reception. Two bottles of drinking water is provided daily. Housekeeping is fast and reception was pleasant. The daily breakfast buffet had more Indonesian than western fare but the fresh fruit was good. There are three malls close by and taxi's are available all through the day. Getting to and from the hotel at certain times of the day can be slow because of very bad traffic.
