“Good Food, Extensive menu, and Good vibe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2014

This place was used to be called Buddha Bar and if you wanna find it but can't really pronounce the current name Tugu Kunstkring Paleis, just ask around with its old name and people will tell you directions. Exclusive atmosphere was felt everywhere in this place. The design was lovely, and the staff were very friendly.Food also tasted good and they have good varieties of wine. I especially like their extensive menu since I am a picky eater and normally can't find good Asian food in a western-only restaurant. You can have either a big family dinner here or romantic date with your partner, you can also go here for just a good night out drinking with friends. They have an art gallery too. But since this place is somewhat exclusive, get ready to spend good amount of money when going there.

“If you only do one thing in Jakarta visit here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2014 via mobile

Wow this place is incredible. It was recommended by a friend and I am so glad we tried it.

The food is outstanding. The menu is long with a mix of western and Asian cuisine. At first I found the length of menu off putting - how could they possible deliver such a wide variety of cuisines...however deliver they did. The food is simply delicious and beautifully presented. I would recommend the curry puffs to start.

The service is efficient, polite and very friendly. The perfect balance between attentive without being over bearing is achieved.

Cocktails were innovative and delicious.

Now the actual venue is something else. Don't be put off by outside and wait till you enter. Words cannot describe the interiors so go and check it out!

“A treat in Jakarta”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2014

This ‘palace’ is one of the Tugu series that includes luxury hotels and restaurants in. This palace is an art gallery cum restarant / café / shop / party centre, however. It is located on Jalan Teuku Umar in Jakarta’s historical Menteng. Its name, Kunstkring, refers to the colonial building in which it is housed. Its style could be described as ‘opulent nostalgia’. The women are dressed in sarong/kabaya and the décor is draped brocade, fat cushions and dark wood. There are also some European style paintings on the walls that may have been left over from tempo dulu. One can brunch, dine and party here with backdrops of contemporary art. http://www.tuguhotels.com/restaurants/jakarta/kunstkring/

The prices are European. This means that they are exorbitant by Indonesian standards but the quality that is proffered is generally quite high.

I only had a cup of tea in the little café. I enjoyed it intensely: organic cocoa-fennel-cinnamon made-in-Malang tea and the cookie that came with it was delicious. I refrained from eating the strawberry cheesecake, banana cake and many other specialties but they were very tempting. Some of them are made in-house by a smiling young woman with natural, shy charm. I have no doubt that they are as good as the cookie.

The atmosphere throughout was quiet and calm; I felt like I had stumbled upon an island of serenity in throbbing Jakarta. I would have preferred a little less attention from the staff that almost fell over itself trying to help me but they were kind and filled with goodwill.

This experience is filed away in my mind as a good place to go for a little treat or breakfast.

I loved imagining what the Bataviasche Kunstkring used to be like and the historical figures who might once have darkened the doorstep of this historical white building with its enchanting grounds. The Kunstkring was devoted to promoting, displaying and selling art. Thankfully the building has been renovated and is being maintained. Apparently the opening of the Nederlandsch-Indische Kunstkring took place there almost exactly 100 years ago, on 17 April 1914.

“Unbeatable ambiance in Jakarta (so far)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2014

One thing that stands out about this restaurant is its ambiance!
The concept of this restaurant is just gorgeous and very well-planned.
You feel like you're going back to a dutch-colonial era in Indonesia (some of my friends even cringed when they see the uniforms of the waiter because it reminded them of dutch invasion era in Indonesia). For me, this place has the best ambiance and atmosphere in Jakarta.

The waiter was very attentive, and I really like their uniform. Looks like the owner is really serious about the concept. And on the 2nd floor, there's painting gallery and also the balcony. Oh, did I say that this place is just gorgeous? And there's a goodie shop just next to the dining area. Just make sure to take your time to digest the whole area of this restaurant, because you will not be disappointed! Even the toilet is very well-decorated!

As for the foods, I think they want to capture the old dutch-Indonesian culinary taste in their menus. I had Nasi Lemak, and it was okay. The orange juice was also fresh. And I also tried Banana Coffee during the next visit which IMO is not so banana (I can hardly taste the banana).

Overall, this restaurant really offer such grand dining experience. I really recommend this place. A great place to either hang out with friends or a date with your significant other.
