The National Museum is worth a visit and provides an interesting view into Indonesian history and especially the way Indonesia sees itself.
There are English language panels throughout the museum.

If you like to see and know about ancient Indonesia, it is a good place to be visited. It is advisable to stroll the museum with the guide. Museum's employee would be your guide and sometimes there are some volunteers.
Please check the day and the time.
Across National Museum, there is National Monument (Monas), it is a good idea, for guests who comes to Jakarta, to visit these places at the same time.
In case you like to know more about Jakarta old history, why not visit Jakarta Museum, at Taman Fatahillah, at Nothern part Jakarta. You can visit this museum using trans-Jakarta bus, which has a bus shelter situated across the National Museum. The bus will drive you directly to Jakarta Museum.

There are varieties of tablets and artifacts to actually see here, the place is quiet some size too! There are great displays of exotic statues and golden artifacts which were pretty interesting, the museum is also quiet informative in terms of everything they put on display. If you like history and museum you musn't miss this one! you'll spend hours here!

National Mesum is mix between history and religion . They dont only display historic item but also marvelous statue . You can see a lot of Buhhda stuatue as well as Hindu figuriness. The price is so cheap for foreigners. They have English translation for every exhibit. It s helpful for you to know more about Indonesia culture . In addition, they use simple display to transmit the island culture. You can open up your eyes thank to beautiful craftman ship, gold treaures from Kings of Indonesia in past. All are old , outdated but that makes them more mystery . A must-go place in Jakarta

The National Museum is an interesting mix of a outdated museum experience to a newly designed annex. The Museum is worth the trip. The price is dirt cheap (just a few dollars) for a foreigner and it really gives you an understanding of the different cultures within a culture. The people of Papua are different from the Javanese as are the Balinese. You will learn that there are 17,000 plus islands and the country of Indonesia is the 3rd largest democracy in the world. You will see beautiful local craftmanship as well as beautiful items of gold. You will learn about island culture in simple displays where some are outdated and dusty looking but it adds to the mystique of this island land. The newly built annex is fresh and displays Indonesia in bright and open galleries. Here you will learn about Lucy the prehistoric human found in Flores. I live in Jakarta and I keep returning and find something new and beautiful to look at. You can easily visit this museum in the morning for a couple of hours and get a good history of Indonesia. Then head out to the Monas across the street for the afternoon and wrap your day up by going out for some local fare. Be aware that the museums in Jakarta close early for Friday prayers at the Mosques.
