Owner description: The Chinatown of Jakarta began long before Indonesia existed as a nation and was originally the Chinatown of Batavia. This was the area where the Dutch required the Chinese to live. Today, the whole area is called Glodok and includes traditional houses, markets, architecture and some very beautiful Chinese temples; the Da Shi Miao and the Vihara Dharma Bhakti temples are both popular tourist attractions. The Glodok Market is one of the great commercial centers of Jakarta where you can buy everything from antiques to laptops.

“China essence here and there”
Reviewed June 27, 2012

Different than any chinatown in the world, jakarta's chinatown is kinda sad. Many old chinese style buildings are teared down and replace with modern shophouses.
regardless, there are still some icons worth viewing, such as Vihara Dharma Jaya (if im not mistaken) that located near petak sembilan alley, Santa Maria De Fatima Church (church with chinese influence building), and toasebio temple.
overall this is not a must see place in jakarta, but if you have some spare time, especially after visiting the old town, this place might have some hidden charm afterall

I was very horrified when i was around there.
Lots of glares and everyone was very cautious since pickpockets are quite familiar there

“Chinatown Jakarta”
Reviewed June 17, 2012

For cheap prices and some surprising food finds it is a great place to go. I don't find it more than average since there not any really landmarks or special activities or architecture to witness. It was just like a regular place to live, but with lots of Chinese all around selling things. My better half is Chinese, and she took me there to get some things for New Year. If you need something "Chinese" it is definitely the place in Jakarta to go.

“Chinese food easily available”
Reviewed June 13, 2012

Yes, you can easily find Chinese food here but the traffic jam means you should be prepared to spend more time for transportation.
