Well its a heaven for wholesale shoppers or grocier as the locals call it. I spent 1mil IDR on only one floor. And i cant seem to stop, everything is cheap and we can bargain for the best price. Dont bring your kids and your husband, they will get bored there. Bring only women or men who's into shopping. For wholesale, its cheap, buy in bulk to get the best price.
Been here a few times throughout the years. Its floor upon floors of wholesale clothing apparel for sale. The best thing to get here is the batik shirts which are quite cheap.
The whole building is separated to different floors and each floor specialises on something for the family. A floor might just be all of kids' clothes; another would be men's clothes; and another would be women's clothes.
As it is wholesale therefore they don't sell individual items, you need to buy at least 3 so better if you come with friends.
Always bargain and don't buy the first thing you see, the chance is there is another shop on the same floor which sells it cheaper.
This place can be very hectic near the school holidays, therefore always look after your belongings. Better to leave the kids at the hotel rather than take them here during the peak hours.
To describe the place, it's like Chatuchak market in Bangkok, housed in one place. and everyone is squeezed in here. If you love a bargain, and willing to bump into the locals, this is a good place for buying batik shirts, t-shirts, kids' clothing, ladies bags, shoes, etc. Do dress conservatively, no short shorts and spaghetti tops pls. Otherwise, you will feel uncomfortable. Keep your moneybag with you safely, as people do jostle around. Toilets facilities are on every floor.
Remember to bargain for almost everything.
Good place to find wholesale mainly clothing & quite cheap...about 7 or 8 storey high and there is a mosque on the high floor...
Disclaimer: I adore textiles, especially when travelling. If youre anything like me, or just want to see an amazingly large mall with anything from shoes to electronics at very good prices- this should be on your list.
Levels B1 and B2 are where the textiles are, personally i found B2 to have a better selection. Thousands of Batiks and Ikat. Be sure to bargain you can get great prices as there's a good deal of competition among vendors!
Pasar Tanah Abang is a shopping haven. It is actually a wholesaler point but also caters to individual shoppers. Try your bargaining skills. For prices, most items are generally cheaper than ITC Mangga Dua. Try the street market outside Blok A. Generally underrated compared to ITC Mangga Dua due to perceived lower class. I would rate the Tenabang Food Court at level 8 Blok A miles better than anything ITC Mangga Dua could offer.
