I was on a business trip with a colleague of mine. I took the deluxe room and got a deal of approx 100USD inclusive of tax and one buffet breakfast. If u have extra person with u in double room shouldnt the second buffet be included,I found that wierd and was my only grudge. The room is a bit old fashioned with old done up gadgets and switches nevertheless it is a comfortable room. Bedsheets r the best/ cleanest and upholstery also good. Bathroom is just about OK. This hotel has a comfy feel to it with ever so smiling staff, helpful and well mannered. Their gym is old but manageable and open 24 hours. The swimming pool is beautiful and fun to be in. Their coffeeshop overlooks the pool and is aesthetically placed and i enjoyed my breakfast there which was also good with western and indonesian spread daily. Internet is available in the room at a charge of 5 US$ an hour or a better rate if u take it for 24 hrs. There is a TONI JACKS urger joint few metres from the hotel which is open 24hrs and has free wireless inetrent so u can have ur burger and do ur work too.Hotel has a good spa and adjoining areas too have body spas at 1/3rd the price no ++ but. Clean and decent spas r there as massage is a culture there u can get full service also u gotta ask. Now the best part of this hotel. Ur close to everything beautiful of JAKARTA. malls ...Plaza indonesia/ grand indonesia/(posh malls) sarinah mall ( decent mall is at hotels door step). Money changers at door step with good rates, sim card/indosat/ telkomsel and road side sim sellers all there at door step.Pizza hut/burger king/ Komalas (indian cusinine)/toni jacks/ manchester united cafe/starbucks all within 2 mins walking distace.........most open 24 hrs. Good night clubs like IMMIGRANT and HARD ROCK CAFE also 10 mins walking distance in Plaza Indonesia . The malls i mentioned are humungus , exquisite and i havent seen malls like these in many many countries that i have visited.Taxi service of blue bird (reliable and decent priced metered taxi ) and silver bird (expensive) taxi service on hotels door step lobby at call so its very easy to go anywhere .Business budling of BCA menara, The PLaza, Menara Executif, Kempinsi all r walking distance. This place rocks and is best location for any tourist also to be staying in JAKARTA.

I returned to Jakarta for the 2nd time within a month. Because we wanted to shop, so we decided to stay near the city center. We were pleased with the near Akmani Hotel during our first trip. But the Pan Pac is just around the corner and it looks huge. So we decided to stay there instead. We booked a Deluxe room from the hotel website for about S$ 187 a night.

There are few things we like about the hotel. Its location, facility (big gym), room service, very thoughtful and 2 times of bed making in a day, and of course the breakfast (sufficient and delicious). However, there are more things we dislike about the hotel!

Firstly, the room doesn't look like the hotel pic,it's quite 80's (You can refer to my photos)...and so outdated. Sheets are ok, but the bath tub stained. Room's wall are super thin!!! I was so shocked as i've never stayed in a hotel room so NOT sound proof. I can practically heard the guest next door coughing and talking and singing clearly.

Secondly, the staff is the main problem. Somehow they have double standard. Especially the lead waitress serving the morning breakfast cafe. Asian you know what i mean. Come on! its 2010! And the service are quite slow. You have to do many things "by yourself", even there are many staffs standing there and do nothing.

Thirdly, one of the reason we book this hotel is beacuse on the website, the package stated extended late checkout till 3pm (mandarin oriental is 6pm). There isn't any esteric there. But we were asked to check out at 12pm. Out of gratitude, they extended for us till 1pm. It's rather frustrating. Management! please do something! Take it away if its not.

So! In overall we weren't pleased by the this hotel. We were warned, but i don't think it makes it to out last shot. For a little more or little less, there are plenty of options in Jakarta.

I have stayed at the Sari Pan 3 times now over the past 6 months for a total of 3 weeks. The hotel really is a nice place with very attentive staff. It is in a great location and within walking distance of pretty much everything you need. Lounge area is nice, food is decent, lots of other places to eat/drink outside of hotel and close. Flannigan's Pub off the lobby is nice but usually dead, Pitstop nightclub in the front of the hotel is a fun place, nice health club and pool area, and a pretty decent rate. While the Pacific floor rooms run about $25 USD per night more than the standard rooms they are worth every penny. Free internet, access to the Club floor lounge on the top floor with nightly dinner and drinks, big rooms, etc. I have stayed in both and to me the difference between the lower floor rooms and the Pacific Club rooms (and amminities) are like night and day. I am heading back to Jakarta again for 2 weeks in March and will stay there again.

I should preface these comments by explaining that I was using a complimentary voucher for "Double Deluxe Room with Breakfast" obtained from a hospitality industry function. Having lived in Jakarta for some 15 months and passing by "SPP" regularly, I was looking forward to returning for the first time since I stayed there in 1985 when attending Indonesian Expo then held in the nearby "Monas Fairgrounds" and my Jl. Thamrin-facing room overlooked a "kampung" with the only commercial building evident being the "Jaya Pub" - also still going-strong as a "Jakarta institution".

i made my reservation by telephone and was tremendously impressed by the professional and personal approach of the reservations officer - a great start! Check-in was ok - I explained when I handed-over the Voucher that my reservation was for a "Double" (which I thought should clearly indicate TWO guests). I requested when given the option, a "non-smoking" room. The porter accompanying me to the room was excellent and chatted happily whilst in the elevator. The "Deluxe" rooms are on renovated floors - new carpets in public areas and in rooms, with bright hallways and batik motifs as wall features. The room was well-appointed with Desk/workstation area (internet connection - at additional cost) and two comfortable chairs + coffee table. The Double Bed had been placed inside space usually taken-up by two single beds which meant that bedside tables were not accessible due to width of headboard.

My "non-smoking" room had an ashtray on coffee table and a room/housekeeping check revealed that whilst housekeeping standards are high, the room had been set for only one guest - one bathrobe, slippers, toiletry kit (but no razor). I called reception and was promised that while I was off the property, they would have housekeeping add the additional amenities. I was also advised that the one "complimentary drink voucher" provided at check-in was ok for two drinks - NOT the case though when we tried to obtain the two welcome-drinks and needed to dispatch the (dis-interested) waitress to reception desk to clarify the situation.

There is a 24-hour Clark Hatch Fitness Centre available free-of-charge to hotel guests, an inspection of which indicated a good range of modern work-out equipment with Change Rooms/"Wet" areas a long walk past the hotel's administrative offices to their location behind the Hotel's "Spa".

On our return to the property following shopping (great location close to Sarinah Department Store and Plaza Indonesia - also Djakarta Theatres and an excellent choice of restaurants and coffee shops catering to all budgets/tastes) housekeeping had not placed additional amenities in room as promised. The housekeeping attendant who came following another call to reception explained that "it is the policy of the hotel that if a room has only one bed then their standard operational procedure is to include amenities for only one guest" - even if a room has been reserved as "Double". Alarm bells then rang loudly and I requested a phone call from the Duty Manager who confirmed that "since January 2010 a Double Room was considered to be for ONE person and an additional charge would apply for a second breakfast". I reminded him that I had held my DOUBLE + BREAKFASTS Voucher for a number of months and had in fact reserved for TWO guests. After some "discussion" I received a promise from him that at breakfast the following morning I would not be embarrassed by being asked to pay for a second breakfast.

This property has an excellent Patisserie/Small Goods outlet which has been a strong point since its inception and I am happy to say that its reputation remains intact after more than a quarter of a century - excellent pastries, cakes, chocolates, breads and small goods plus a friendly and efficient staff. I'll be returning to "Sari Pan" if only to make further purchases from here.

There is a distinct lack of consistency in standards of overall service throughout this property - with levels being either "excellent" or "indifferent bordering-on surly" and virtually no middle-ground. Breakfast staff fell into the "indifferent bordering-on surly" category with no exceptions! Although towards end of breakfast service and with the restaurant far from busy, the cook at "egg corner" pointed to a pre-cooked and heat-dried omelette on a warming tray beside dried-out fried eggs on which the "sunny-side" had unquestionably "set"! She agreed reluctantly to make a fresh Omelette. Every hot dish on the buffet was stone-cold as lamps under chafing dishes had long ago gone out and were not replaced. Obtaining a Coffee meant stopping a member of service staff intent on "clearing-up" and asking if one would be possible? - refills were equally non-existent.

Despite its age, refurbishments over the years have maintained a more than presentable image across the property - and it is a great location for visitors to Jakarta wishing to see many of the City's attractions - also for business folk looking for a mid-range hotel. It is such a shame that Management's peculiar "standard operational procedures" and the huge inconsistencies in service levels are a strong detraction when it comes to either returning personally - or to recommending this hotel to others visiting Jakarta on business or pleasure.
