“Smoke free please?”
Reviewed March 7, 2013 via mobile

The place has fantastic atmosphere, food is great, a good selections of drinks too. Only thing I don't like there is the poor air ventilation. Although inside of the place is separated into smoking and non-smoking, due to the poor air ventilation, I can't stand the smoke.

“Poor service, arrogant receptionist.”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

The greeting from receptionist was cold. I went there to buy some cakes for to go around 11 am so its not crowded at that time. When I ask the waitress about the cake, the waitress reply by walking away from me, they reluctant to answer my question. The waitress aren't busy they just standing , watching visitor and talk to each other. If this place keep that waitress, no wonder this place will closed soon because the waitress are so rude, lazy, arrogant. I will not came back to this place again.

“Nice Cafe with Average Food and Poor Service, Unattentive Staff”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

I decided to visit this cafe for being a cafe that many people talk about. The location is great; inside Sogo Department Store in Plaza Senayan shopping mall. The first impression of the ambiance and atmosphere is being nice, cozy, and laid-back. But the greeting from the receptionist was cold. And the worse part was that the visitors are allowed only two hours (or less, if one does not have a reservation) to dine in there. So, the feeling of laid-back was gone instantly, thinking that we had to 'manage' our melas there so that we could finish it in the time given. *sigh*

The waiters are not less arrogant than the receptionist. They were reluctant to come to the our table, they had to be called so that we could make some order. And let me tell you, these waiters were not busy, they were just standing, watching some other visitors and talked to each other.

The speed of the food and drinks coming to the table was reasonable. The food and beverage options are pretty interesting. Some of them are just ordinary, like buffalo chicken wings, onion soup but there are menu with a twist, too, such as burger with truffle oil, pasta with wild mushrooms. The taste is acceptable, but not to die for.

The tables were crammed to get maximum number of customers. It feels kind a crowded. It is a pity, because the ambiance created from the decor is stressing a cozy and relax atmosphere but it is hardly felt for being too crowded and the limited dining time allowance. It is quite hard to walk in there, too for the chairs are too closed to each other creating a narrow alley.

As a place to see and be seen? Definitely! Just be warned of the service and keep watching your time.

“Stripped down Loewy”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

Its crammed, energetic & busy vibe is probably the distinguishing factor as well as a turn-off for some. But one can get more forgiving if you realize that the original intension was a lively bar with a bistro menu thrown in.

Yes, its a not so bad imitation of the Loewy feel, with some interesting snacking options worth mentioning. The marrowbone with onion jam and the buffalo wings which has distinct signature tastes are worth checking out. The drinks are more imaginative and the freshly squeezed orange juice (probably the best in town) would be a great way to hydrate before you dive into more serious options (specially if still hammered from the previous evening). The sugary sweetness of the mint julep could do with lesser doze of generosity.

Union on the whole is a sort of 'Prisoner's Dilemma'. Is a nice option if you are in its vicinity and probably not as a planned destination. On the other hand, given its size and social status, its generally impossible to get a table unless its reserved in advance.
