Jakarta is often suffocated under a wealth of negative publicity. Often disregarded by many who are unable to spare the time and patience to discover and understand the real city it lies redundant on many a travellers itinerary. Despite the thick smog that lingers low over the city and the heavily congested traffic that clog the capitals side streets it holds little pretence and what you see is what you get. Various sights of interest are interwoven with the rest of the city complemented by heaps of popular street vendors who line the back streets perfect for a decent traditional indonesian feed, following the locals is always the way forward. If you are looking for something a little different a world away from the creature comforts more synonymous with typical western cities then pay the capital of the ring of fire a visit and make your own mind up.

The market at the evening is nice, but the water in the river is so dirty.
If you walk near the water you smell the sewerage and that's how it looks like as well.
The buildings aren't well maintained and there ain't much to see.

When you visited Jakarta, do not miss to visit the old railway station. This railway station was built in 1927 by the Dutch Colonial. It was a grandeur station with the european architecture and it has 8 lines for trains. The station was closed from 1980's to 2006. Now it's being renewed and open for public to visit. How do we get there? You may take a taxi from old station in Kota, North Jakarta and take 30 - 45 minutes and the price of taxi Rp 50.000 - 60.000. The train station is quite safe rather than the past, now we can see the security securing the station. When you were there, don't forget to ask permission to the station officer. No fee actually, but it's better if you give them a tip.
